Network Engineer - Contract-to-Hire - Onsite in Madison, WI

We are seeking a hands-on Network Engineer to support a mid-sized organization with a growing footprint in the manufacturing sector. This role is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented and experienced network professional who thrives in dynamic, high-uptime environments and enjoys being physically present to support network infrastructure at multiple sites.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform hands-on configuration, installation, and maintenance of network switches and routers, primarily in a Cisco-based environment.
  • Implement and manage network segmentation strategies to improve security and operational efficiency across manufacturing and corporate sites.
  • Collaborate closely with the network and cybersecurity teams to support and secure infrastructure using Palo Alto firewalls and Rockwell Stratix industrial networking hardware.
  • Provide on-the-ground troubleshooting and network support across multiple manufacturing sites, requiring regular travel to various facilities.
  • Support facility network build-outs, including planning cable runs, switch placement, wireless AP setup, and coordination with third-party vendors or contractors as needed.
  • Document all configurations and maintain accurate network diagrams and records.
  • Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations to ensure network availability and reliability.


Requirements

Key Qualifications:

3+ years of Network Engineering/Administration experience

Expertise in Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls

Understanding of manufacturing environments & networking challenges

Experience with SD-WAN and multi-site networking
