Department Summary:
The Center for Securing the Homeland (CSH) State Department Work Program Division (P770) is seeking a Systems Engineer who will join a team of analysts and engineers. MITRE is leading a work program for the Department of State and USAID that includes diplomatic modernization, global CyberTech solutions, and global operations and acquisitions. You will work on real-world problems through the application of sound engineering principles. Candidates who identify as international policy analysts will be considered strong candidates for this position.

Roles and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with MITRE mission specialists and engineers supporting the State Department sponsor to help design, develop, and implement solutions and technologies to address diplomatic challenges.
- Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis on international relations, policy trends, and regional dynamics to inform diplomatic decision-making
- Focused research on conflict resolution strategies, mediation techniques, and best practices for preventing and resolving international disputes at the United Nations and other multilateral fora
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis on international relations, including bilateral and multilateral diplomacy (e.g., United Nations), policy trends, and regional dynamics to inform diplomatic decision-making.
Basic Qualifications:
- Typically requires less than 1 year of related experience with a related Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
- Prior experience as an intern at MITRE in the last 12 months.
- Ability to work with others to solve challenging technical problems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adapted to a variety of audiences
- Proven skills in data science related to data wrangling and analysis of data
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance (Secret)
- This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- Experience in a customer-facing environment
- Experience with research and analysis
- Experience with research in conflict resolution
- Experience with international relations
- Work with sponsors, vendors, and partner contractors to gain understanding of sponsor business challenges and evaluate possible technical solutions
- Excellent communications, writing, written deliverable, and briefing skills
- Skill in applying and incorporating information technologies into proposed solutions
- Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.
