Overview

Groton COLUMBIA Construction Support Engineering is seeking experienced and motivated shipbuilders. This is a unique opportunity to support final assembly, test, certification, and delivery of the first of class SSBN 826 COLUMBIA, the Nation's #1 defense priority, on the front lines of engineering. This once in a career opportunity will be challenging and rewarding as the COLUMBIA Waterfront team supports the Groton Shipyard to get boats down river. In this role, test engineers will provide comprehensive technical oversight of construction and test activities and will interface with Ship's Management, Planning, Operations, Test, Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SUPSHIP), and PMS397 to act as the primary test engineering interface for the Groton shipyard.

Responsibilities will include the following:
  • Provide technical oversight and assist trade personnel to overcome emergent shipyard issues that arise during construction and testing
  • Interpret drawing and testing requirements
  • Provide guidance and direction to Groton trades and test via dispositions of Change Notices and TIR UNSATs
  • Develop test equipment drawings
  • Support Shipyard Test, Strategic Weapons Test, and Non-Propulsion Electronics Test organizations
  • Support all testing needs including troubleshooting and test form execution
  • Facilitate the implementation of testing process improvements
  • Coordinate engagement of test and engineering SMEs in the construction sequence

This position is for full time work at the Groton shipyard facility.

Qualifications

Required:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of shipyard experience

Preferred:
  • Associates Degree or higher
  • 10+ years of shipyard experience
  • Experience using Teamcenter, ELCADD and Electronic Desktop
