We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to join a long-term project supporting a large IT environment. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with Sybase 15.7 and SQL Server, with a strong background in Unix/Solaris/Linux environments and formal change control processes.
This is not a short-term contract. While the role starts as a contractor, there may be opportunities for conversion to full-time employment in the future. The position involves both Sybase and SQL Server administration, supporting migration efforts as the environment transitions from Sybase to SQL Server over the next few years.
Responsibilities:
Support and maintain Sybase 15.7 environments on Solaris in an X86 hardware environment.
Assist with migration from Sybase to SQL Server.
Develop and manage Unix CRON jobs using command-line tools.
Provide troubleshooting and support for database issues in Sybase and SQL Server environments.
Work with SQL Server clusters and Disaster Recovery in development, test, and production.
Support weekly data fixes and assist senior DBAs with after-hours implementations.
Work within a formal change control environment.
Required Skills:
10+ years overall experience as a Database Administrator.
4–5+ years of combined experience with Sybase and SQL Server.
Strong troubleshooting skills.
Hands-on experience with Unix/Solaris/Linux.
Experience with Sybase ASE 15.7.
Experience with SQL Server on Windows Server, including clusters and DR.
Ability to assist in Sybase to SQL Server migrations.
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with EFL tools for migration.
Prior experience in large enterprise database environments.
Additional Information:
Local candidates strongly preferred.
Non-local candidates must be willing to relocate at their own expense and follow the hybrid schedule.
