Job Details

Description:
The Security Architect will lead the design, implementation, and support of secure enterprise network infrastructures in a Cisco-based environment, with a focus on public safety and compliance. This senior-level, hands-on role involves configuring and managing firewalls, VPNs, wireless networks, and routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP), while also serving as the top-tier escalation point for network performance and incident response. The architect will enforce security controls aligned with standards like CJIS and NIST, support audit readiness, and collaborate with cybersecurity teams on threat mitigation. As a Subject Matter Expert, this role includes mentoring IT staff, developing documentation, and guiding certification efforts. On-site presence is required, along with the ability to support after-hours operations and occasional local travel.

Location: 100% On-Site - Tustin, CA 92780 area

Duration: 12-month Contract to hire

Interview Process: First Video interview with Manager, Second with Team Members and third with Director.

Work Hours: 40 hours per week; overtime, weekends, and after-hours support required as needed

Equipment: Department-issued laptop/tools

Security Requirement: Must pass the department background check

Due to client requirements, we can only consider W2 employment.

Rate: ($80/hr. - 90/hr. W2)

Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:

Implementation, Operations & Support
  1. Serve as the hands-on lead engineer for network deployment, upgrades, and incident response.
  2. Configure and manage Cisco switches, routers, firewalls, WLCs, and wireless endpoints.
  3. Design and manage VPNs, QoS, ACLs, network monitoring, and logging systems.
  • Act as the Level 4 escalation point for complex network issues and performance tuning.
  • Security, Compliance & Audit Readiness
  1. Enforce network security controls aligned with industry standards and policies.
  2. Implement and maintain firewall rulesets, NAC solutions, and endpoint access policies.
  3. Support the cybersecurity team in incident detection, forensic analysis, and mitigation strategies.
  • Provide documentation and evidence for security audits and compliance reviews.
  • SME Leadership & Staff Development
  1. Serve as the organization's Subject Matter Expert (SME) on enterprise networking.
  2. Train, coach, and mentor internal IT staff, including junior and mid-level network technicians.
  3. Lead structured knowledge transfer sessions and hands-on training.
  4. Create SOPs, how-to guides, and step-by-step documentation.
  • Support staff in preparation for certification paths (e.g., CCNA/CCNP).

Experience Requirements:
Key Technical Skills:
  • Cisco network environments (Catalyst, Nexus, ISR/ASR)
  • Cisco ASA, Firepower/FTD firewalls
  • Cisco ISE, AnyConnect, VPN solutions
  • Routing protocols: OSPF, BGP, EIGRP
  • Wireless networks: WLCs, Aironet/Meraki
  • Network monitoring and logging systems (SolarWinds, NetFlow, SNMP)

Required Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of enterprise network architecture and engineering experience.
  • Extensive experience with Cisco-based network environments.
  • Deep understanding of public safety network requirements.
  • Experience training or mentoring technical teams.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in law enforcement, government, or public safety IT environments.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as CJIS, NIST, or FedRAMP.

Certifications:
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) - Required
  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) - Preferred
  • Cisco Certified Specialist - Security or Wireless - Bonus
  • CISSP, Fortinet NSE, Aruba, or other relevant credentials - Bonus


Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or additional years of experience required

Skills, experience, and other compensable factors will be considered when determining pay rate. The pay range provided in this posting reflects a W2 hourly rate; other employment options may be available that may result in pay outside of the provided range.
