Job Details

Job Title: Mechanism's Design Engineer

Location: LA, CA

Long Term Contract

Core Responsibilities

Research and Analysis: Analyze problems and research feasible mechanical solutions, evaluate designs for

performance and feasibility, and conduct tests on mechanical systems.

Design: Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided engineering (CAE) tools to design new mechanical

devices and subsystems, and to improve existing ones.

Testing and Validation: Develop and execute test procedures, analyze test results, and refine designs based on

performance and failures.

Manufacturing Support: Oversee the manufacturing process, provide technical documentation, and ensure that

manufactured products meet design specifications.

Problem-Solving: Investigate equipment failures or operational issues to identify root causes and recommend remedies.

Collaboration: Work with other engineers and teams to develop project goals and plans, and to communicate technical

information effectively.

Typical Work Activities

Designing mechanical parts, tools, and complex systems, such as spaceflight mechanisms for satellite constellations.

Using software for design (CAD), analysis (FEA), and simulation to evaluate and optimize mechanical designs.

Serve as a critical technical interface to broader team, participating as a technical voice in Design Reviews, key technical

escalations, and product development activities.

Developing and refining testing requirements and processes for new devices.

Troubleshooting and resolving issues that arise during the manufacturing or operational phases of a device.

Maintaining and updating technical documentation related to designs and projects.

Key Skills and Qualifications

A strong understanding of mechanical principles, including thermodynamics, materials science, and stress analysis.

Proficiency with mechanical design and analysis software, including CAD and FEA tools.

Prototype designs for lab testing and space qualification

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to diagnose and resolve complex mechanical issues.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills for collaborating with other professionals.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

5+ years experience as a mechanical design engineer

Degree in one of the following areas OR related field OR equivalent work experience:

Mechanical Engineering (Preferred)

Electrical Engineering or similar STEM disciples

Demonstrated experience in one of the following areas:

Space systems

Free space optical systems

Precision mechanisms

Demonstrated experience in all the following areas:

Hands on experience executing Space Qualification of novel mechanisms

CAD (+5 years)

NX / TeamCenter (+1 year)

Drawing experience w/ GD&T

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

10+ years experience as a mechanical design engineer

Experience designing:

LASER optical communication systems for space applications

Precision space mechanisms

Experience building optical systems in lab / 100k clean room environment
