Summary

You will serve as a MECHANICAL ENGINEER in the Engineering Division, Marine Depot Maintenance Command

(MDMC), of MCLC ALBANY GA.

The Secretary of Defense has ordered a department-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions. This position is subject to the DoD hiring freeze. Offers of employment related to this vacancy announcement will not be executed until the position has an approved exemption.

Duties

Help

  • You will serve as a technical consultant providing technical advice and information to other engineers, technicians, and other departments/agencies.
  • You will work with Base Installation and Environment (I and E), Public Works, Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), and MDMC.
  • You will provide technical assistance to NAVFAC Contracting Office Technical Representative on various facility projects. Reviews and provides feedback on facility design review and contractor Request for Information (RFI).
  • You will create and review engineering sketches/drawings/drawing packages, manufacturing specifications, cost estimates, and other engineering documentation required to support facility related projects.
  • You will coordinate with and assists other engineers in the development of Statement of Work (SOW) requirements for facility/construction and equipment for the MDMC Capital Investment Program (CIP).
  • You will Performs original design studies relative to concept and design of equipment, fixtures and tooling to support the following primary vehicle systems and their components: hulls, chassis, suspensions, turrets, armament, engines, transmissions.
  • You will also perform final drives, fire control instruments, electronic components, hydraulic components and ancillary equipment to be used for the overhaul, repair, modification, and upgrade of Marine Corps equipment
  • You will provide complex independent support for the depot mission in the conceptual design, improvement and installation of mission production equipment, associated facilities.
  • You will provide methods and procedures by applying a professional knowledge of Mechanical, Industrial and Electronic engineering principles, methodology and design.
  • You will conduct market research to determine the latest state-of-the-art equipment/technology available.
  • You will design, prototypes, re-designs, and reverse engineers electrical and mechanical systems to include stands, jigs, fixtures, special tools, and other special equipment required to support the production process.

    travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Passport.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that

    are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night

    differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card with travel and purchase authority.
  • You will be required to successfully complete an annual physical examination.
  • Incumbent may be required to work overtime and overtime on an emergency basis and may be recalled to duty.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Providing technical engineering services including planning, procurement for facilities and capital equipment purchases and installation, research, material selection, certification oversight, design, re-engineering, evaluation, inspection and safety analysis.

Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:

. Successfully completed a bachelor's degree (or higher) in engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

2. A combination of college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: (I) Professional registration or licensure: Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration; or (II) Written Test: Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico; or (III) Specified academic courses: Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A (above); or (IV) Related curriculum: Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-
