As a Material Handling Engineering Manager, you will support USPS Engineering Systems by driving improvements across material handling engineering, maintenance strategies, and engineering support for mail processing and distribution centers nationwide. This role sits at the intersection of engineering excellence, operational efficiency, and mission impact—supporting one of the largest and most complex logistics networks in the world.

What You’ll Do:

  • Evaluate existing material handling systems, policies, and maintenance practices, identifying opportunities for innovation, modernization, and efficiency gains

  • Develop and recommend cost-effective, high-impact improvements to material handling processes, packaging methods, and supporting infrastructure

  • Produce engineering concepts, sketches, samples, and written analyses to support proposed system designs and enhancements

  • Estimate material requirements, project costs, and implementation timelines to support informed decision-making

  • Lead and support installation, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities for material handling systems

  • Coordinate technical efforts and deliveries with external vendors and suppliers

  • Draft or contribute to technical documentation, user manuals, drawings, and engineering lists

  • Perform additional engineering and program support duties as required to support USPS mission objectives

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related discipline

  • 10+ years of progressive engineering experience, preferably supporting large-scale industrial, logistics, or automated material handling environments

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access) and relevant engineering software

  • Hands-on experience with CAD tools such as Autodesk Inventor or AutoCAD

  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods

  • Flexibility to work non-standard hours when operational needs require

  • Willingness to travel in support of USPS facilities and projects

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
