Work Arrangement

Onsite - This position requires the employee to work onsite full time. The primary work location will be Warren, MI or Mountain View, CA.

The Role

We are seeking a Staff Robotics Engineer , Perception/Computer Vision, to join our Manufacturing Technology Development (MTD) team within General Motor's Research and Development organization . In this role, you will lead and develop perception feature s to enable robots with advanced capabilities such as object detection, obstacle avoidance, path optimization and manipulation . This role involves a combination of artificial intelligence and computer vision techniques applied to real-world scenarios in dynamic manufacturing environments.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead , develop and deploy cutting-edge perception pipeline and algorithm for segmentation, scene understanding, object detection and localization, pose estimation , dynamic tracking , etc


  • Architect scalable AI model training and inference systems, ensuring robustness, efficiency, and real-world applicability


  • Design and maintain pipelines for data collection, annotation, preprocessing, model training, and evaluation


  • Collaborate with high -caliber team s of hardware engineers, software engineers, and domain experts to integrate with mapping, motion planning and controls


  • Mentor and guide cross-functional teams, fostering technical excellence and knowledge sharing across MTD and ARC team s


  • Shape technical strategy, identifying emerging trends and translating them into actionable R&D initiatives


  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and best practices in robotic perception and lead and participate in academic / industrial collaborations.


  • Generate intellectual property, document results and publish papers


Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • 8+ years of professional experience with a proven track record of developing and deploying AI/ML, perception, computer vision ( e.g. mono and stereo cameras, RGB-D, event camera, LiDAR, etc ) on robotic systems
  • Proficiency in Python or C++ with hands-on experience on deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch


  • Solid understanding of robotics fundamentals, perception methods and their typical strengths & shortcomings
  • Consistently seeking opportunities and embracing challenges to drive self-growth and improvement
  • Passionate about robotics, with a strong desire to accelerate the application of robotics with AI .
  • Master's, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field


What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, Computer Vision or a related research field


  • Hands-on robotics experience , such as autonomous vehicles (AV), ADAS, or industrial automation systems in manufacturing environments.


  • Experience with robotics frameworks such as ROS/ROS2, (e.g., Nav2, MoveIt 2 ).


  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and modern software development practices


Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position, as well as geography of the selected candidate.
  • The salary range for this role is $185,000 - $285,000 . The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
