The Opportunity

Ford is undergoing a significant transformation. We are investing in new EV product development, manufacturing, and Software enabled subscription services. To support these initiatives, Ford must think beyond and work differently to support the transition to a software focused business including simplification and modernization of our industrial processes and systems.

The Head of Software Engineering for Mfg. Execution Systems & Intelligent Vehicles, will play a key role in establishing the strategy and integrated roadmap for the next generation of manufacturing technologies at Ford, partnering with the Digital Manufacturing organization. This role works alongside the senior leadership of the Industrial System IT organization driving transformation and execution required for Ford to compete and excel in the new era of software driven products and services.

What you'll be able to do:

The Head of Software Engineering for Mfg. Execution Systems & Intelligent Vehicles will partner with Digital Manufacturing, Mfg. Engineering, Mfg. Operations, and the Industrial System IT Leadership to establish a vision and roadmap to transform and modernize our processes, systems, and data across the industrial system. The role responsibilities will include:
  • Bring in an outside-in perspective of the emerging industry processes and systems across all industrial functions.
  • Build high-performing software organization required to execute the mission, leverage cloud/SaaS, modern software development practices, and hardening our data architecture required throughout intelligent and EV production lifecycle.
  • Establish and maintain critical Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) for all software platforms and solutions, including automated detection, diagnosis and remediation capabilities and ensuring 24x7 availability for plant operations. Assess talent strengths and gaps and build a talent plan with robust succession and leadership pipeline.
  • Execute technology demand management and governance for annual and quarterly planning cycles, including prioritization based on changing business needs and value.
  • Determine critical inter-dependencies between the Mfg. business and broader Ford - Engineering, Mfg. Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, IT Infrastructure and New Vehicle Programs.
  • Serve as the IT leader responsible for IT budget, investment business cases & prioritization, and budget execution for all related spend.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships across leaders in the Industrial System and related domains.
  • Plan, organize and execute leadership / team workshops required to accomplish goals.
  • Prepare and deliver executive updates and presentations for operational updates, organizational accomplish to objectives, strategy, and roadmap etc.


Functional & Technical Knowledge

The minimum requirements we seek
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM Domain.
  • 15+ years related working experience managing people/teams in Manufacturing IT, including advanced technology skills such as IIOT, AR/VR, AI, cloud and other Industrie x.0 capabilities
  • 3-5+ years leading a modern and advanced software engineering organization leveraging custom and SaaS solutions

  • Domain expertise in the Industrial System domain areas (Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain & Logistics)
  • Proven track record of successful deployment of core industrial systems - MES, advanced manufacturing systems and operations
  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic thinking, execution excellence and peer collaboration
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, ability to effectively speak to complex technical concepts
  • Experience navigating and partnering to deliver complex production critical systems
  • Technical expertise designing and implementing systems on Google Cloud, leveraging modern application infrastructure and DevSecOps
  • Inclusive leadership style with the ability to lead through influence and build meaningful relationships at all levels and functions of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to balance the operational excellence of the organization with enabling the long-term vision and success
  • Executive presence, be able to work cross-functionally, in a matrixed environment and have experience in a large multi-national company
  • Most important, the successful leader will exhibit the Ford+ behaviors and work diligently and ethically each day to help achieve success of the Ford+ plan
