Job Title: AWS Data Engineer

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled AWS Data Engineer to join our team supporting a leading client in the life sciences industry in Waukegan, IL. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in AWS cloud services, Python programming, and a strong understanding of data engineering best practices. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the healthcare or life sciences domains.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines on AWS

  • Build and optimize data architectures using services like S3, Glue, Lambda, Redshift, EMR, Athena, Step Functions, etc.

  • Write clean, reusable, and efficient code in Python for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL/ELT)

  • Implement data governance, data quality, and data security best practices

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data scientists, analysts, and domain experts

  • Optimize performance of large-scale data workflows

  • Work in Agile environment and participate in sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering roles

  • Proven expertise in AWS Cloud services for data processing and management

  • Advanced proficiency in Python

  • Hands-on experience with modern data pipeline frameworks and orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Step Functions)

  • Familiarity with data lake and data warehouse architectures

  • Strong knowledge of SQL and experience with relational and NoSQL databases

  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a W2 basis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in healthcare, medical devices, or life sciences domain

  • Knowledge of HIPAA, GxP, or other regulatory requirements
