Statewide Agile Resources and Teams 2024–Labor Category – Testing Specialist

Maryland Department of Health is seeking resources to do Application Testing through the full software development lifecycle. The objective is to provide thorough testing of application functions to deliver a high-quality product that will meet business goals and objectives

Position Description: The Testing Specialist shall design and execute IT software tests and evaluate results to ensure compliance with applicable regulations. This individual prepares test scripts and all required test documentation and must be able to design and prepare all the test data needed. The Testing Specialist analyzes internal security within systems, reviews test results, and evaluates for conformance to design.

Role and Responsibilities:

●        Create and document test plans, execute tests, analyze results, and report problems and anomalies, all via the lens of business end users

●        Operate in SAFe Agile approach to support testing needs

●        Work closely and collaboratively with both MDH business partners, PMO and Vendor technical delivery teams to understand business requirements

●        Ensure software testing is done on-time and as planned and notify management about bottlenecks and other issues and risks

●        Create UAT Plan, identify test scenarios working closely with business SMES/Bas

●        Participate in Defect triage meetings and Demos

●        Report Weekly status to Quality Assurance Testing Lead

Education: This position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in computer science, information systems, engineering, business, or related scientific or technical discipline; or three (3) years of equivalent experience in a related field. (Note: A Master’s degree is preferred.)

General Experience: The proposed candidate must have at least four (4) years of experience in computer software development.

●        Experience in mid-scale or large-scale system development projects (including using test automation, test strategy, developing and executing test scripts and test plans)

●        Experience in QA concepts and best practices

●        Experience creating test cases and writing manual test scripts

●        Experience in running tests for application functions

●        Experience with SDLC and Agile methodologies

●        Familiar with User Acceptance Testing (UAT) processes and collaborating with the business stakeholders to conduct UAT

●        Familiarity with defect management tools (HP ALM, Bugzilla, JIRA etc.)

●        Ability to prioritize multiple tasks

●        Strong verbal and written communication skills

●        Strong organization skills

Specialized Experience: The proposed candidate must have at least two (2) years of software testing experience (integration and acceptance).

Experience with the Healthcare domain is a plus.
