Lead Linux/Unix Engineer
Location: Winston-Salem, North Carolina
Hybrid - 2-3 days per week on site
Base Salary + 15% bonus target
Position summary:
Senior-level UNIX/Linux (RHEL & AIX) Engineer with experience building, supporting, and maintaining large scale server infrastructures in 24X7 production environment.
Qualifications required:
- 7+ years of experience in Linux and UNIX Server installation, upgrade, configuration, troubleshooting, and support
- AWS experience focusing on using or creating EC2, Lambda, VPC and Service groups
- Cloud fundamentals, Cloud infrastructure provisioning, Cloud design Pattern
- Working knowledge of AWS Simple Storage Service, AWS CloudWatch, AWS Systems Manager, AWS Management Console and/or AWS CLI
- Extensive experience with RHEL 7.x & 8.x on x86_64 and IBM Power, ESX and VMWare
- Strong understanding of IBM Power platforms, AIX 7.x, in-depth knowledge of LPAR s, HMC s and VIO Servers
- In-depth knowledge of Logical Volume Manager on RHEL and AIX
- Strong understanding of SAN (IBM and EMC), TCP/IP, DNS, LDAP/Active Directory, and firewalls
- Strong knowledge of data backup solutions Networker and Avamar
- Strong understanding of creating and managing virtual machines on Power and VMware
- Implementation of LDAP, Active Directory and DNS
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including MC Projects, Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Excellent Verbal and written communication skills
- Professional demeanor and be able to effectively work cross-functionally within the organization
- Bachelor s degree in computer science or equivalent experience
Qualifications desired:
- Experience with virtualization platforms (AWS), IBM Power and VMware
- Experience with VMware virtualization including VLANs and virtual networking
- Ability to think outside the box in troubleshooting and resolving advanced issues
- Cloud/AWS experience and knowledge highly desirable
- Scripting knowledge
- Knowledge of third-party tools for monitoring and performance
Essential functions and responsibilities:
- Server Operating System - design and implementation of Linux and UNIX Server platforms
- Establish, implement, & maintain standards devise and maintain server build process, hardening, firmware revisions and driver versions
- Collaborate with IT Security to implement and maintain RHEL and AIX hardening standards
- Infrastructure Management Tools help integrate RHEL and AIX servers into existing management tools (monitoring tools, anti-virus, FIM)
- Responsible for security patch validation
- Server Contingency Design & Testing - contribute to TCH DR/BCP efforts
- Comply with TCH Change Control standards
- Test upgrades of all server components - hardware, O/S, drivers, firmware, microcode, patches
- Create and/or maintain Server documentation and Procedural documentation
- Audit & Compliance - test and implement security settings to ensure server compliance with security and audit requirements; familiarity with industry standards such as PCI, ISO, etc. is desired
- Work with Operations and Architecture teams to maintain current environment and plan future environments
