IT Help Desk Technician

Position Summary

The IT Help Desk Technician will be part of a dynamic team of professionals that provide excellent IT service and support to the Department of Statistics and Probability and the Department of Mathematics. This position will work with a wide selection of technologies that support teaching and learning, research, and operations while working closely with faculty, staff, and students. Ideal candidates will have the ability to work well on a team that supports a diverse user base, have excellent communication skills; learn from, and collaborate with, other IT professionals to accomplish tasks and projects.

What you'll be doing with us:
Tech support for desktops and laptops running Windows, Mac OS, and Linux
Tech support for printers, multi-function devices, and tablets
Setup of new tech devices and decommissioning of old devices
Tech support of various software and web applications
Manage and track Department software licenses, including user maintenance and installation
Maintain IT inventory including hardware and software
Perform basic server updates, file permission setting changes, and AD group maintenance
Perform basic Ethernet and WiFi network troubleshooting and manage basic network settings on various devices
Support and maintain conference and classroom projectors and misc. AV equipment
Assist users with virtual meetings on Zoom and Microsoft Teams

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; experience working desktop operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, and Linux; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to take ownership of a project and see it through to completion
  • Experience with automation and scripting tools such as Windows PowerShell, Microsoft Power Automate, and Git
  • Experience with Linux command line
  • Experience supporting academic technology
