Founding Customer Success Manager | YC-Backed | On-Site in San Francisco (Startup Experience Required)
Location: San Francisco, CA (On site only)
Type: Full-time
Compensation:
Base Salary: $120,000 to $150,000
Bonus: $20,000 to $40,000
Equity: Competitive and meaningful (discussed during process)
About the Company
We are hiring on behalf of a Y Combinator backed startup based in San Francisco, building powerful tools at the intersection of data infrastructure and observability. Backed by leading investors and technical founders, the product is already in the hands of engineering teams solving complex problems across the modern data stack.
We are now hiring a Founding Customer Success Manager (CSM) to ensure those customers succeed.
This is a high impact, hands on role for someone who is ready to own relationships with technical buyers like Heads of Engineering, CTOs, and Data Platform Leads, drive retention and expansion, and lay the foundation for a scalable customer success function.
What You Will Do
Serve as the first full time customer success hire reporting directly to the leadership team
Onboard new technical customers and ensure smooth handoff from sales with fast time to value
Develop deep knowledge of each customer's stack and use case, acting as a trusted advisor
Proactively manage adoption, engagement, and renewals
Partner with sales on expansion opportunities and upsell paths
Build and iterate on customer success playbooks, onboarding flows, and support resources
Collect and share customer feedback with product and engineering
Represent the company in onsite customer sessions, business reviews, and key account strategy meetings
Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone with strong customer facing experience in technical SaaS who thrives in early stage startups and wants to build, not just maintain.
Startup experience is required.
Must Have Experience:
3 to 6 years in Customer Success, Solutions Engineering, or Post Sales roles at early stage SaaS startups
Experience working with technical users in areas like data infrastructure, developer tools, or APIs
Ability to manage onboarding, training, QBRs, and renewals with minimal support
Experience working with mid market and enterprise clients
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including live technical conversations
Comfortable working cross functionally with Sales, Product, and Engineering
Based in or relocating to San Francisco. This is an onsite role
Bonus Points For:
Experience at a Y Combinator backed startup
Background in data engineering, observability, or developer tooling
Familiarity with tools like Looker, dbt, Airflow, Segment, Snowflake, or Postgres
Experience building customer education content or CS tooling stack
