Job Title: Mainframe Data Migration Engineer
Experience Level: Senior (7+ years)


Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe Data Migration Engineer to support large-scale legacy modernization initiatives. You will be responsible for extracting, transforming, and migrating data from mainframe systems to modern database environments both on-premise and cloud-based. This role requires deep expertise in data structures, legacy systems, RDBMS platforms, and performance optimization.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Extract and migrate data from legacy mainframe systems such as Adabas, IDMS, VSAM, and DB2 z/OS

  • Convert data structures and application data into modern RDBMS environments (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL)

  • Identify and resolve cross-code and data issues during migration

  • Perform root cause analysis of defects using reporting and debugging tools

  • Validate and verify migrated data in target systems for completeness and integrity

  • Collaborate with migration teams and provide guidance on technical issues

  • Conduct performance tuning and analysis for runtime optimization

  • Configure and load data into relational databases on Linux, Windows, or cloud platforms

  • Compare and recommend best-fit solutions across cloud DBMS platforms

  • Share feedback and insights with R&D to improve tooling and migration efficiency


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science or a related field

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience with relational and transactional databases (DDL, DML, TCL)

  • 3+ years of experience in mainframe data modernization projects

  • Strong understanding of z/OS or Unisys database environments

  • Working knowledge of IMS, VSAM, JCL, COBOL

  • Familiarity with SQL performance tuning and optimization techniques

  • Experience working across both Windows and Linux environments

  • Proficiency with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
