Data Modeler

Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid 2 3 days onsite/week)

Overview:

The Data Modeler will design and optimize conceptual, logical, and physical data models within a Medallion Architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold) to support trading, risk, and compliance data domains. The role requires collaboration across architecture, engineering, and business teams to ensure consistent, performant, and scalable data structures for Capital Markets use cases.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models for trading, risk, and compliance systems.

  • Align data models with Medallion (Bronze/Silver/Gold) lakehouse layers on AWS.

  • Collaborate with data architects and engineers to implement efficient schemas using Parquet, Iceberg, Spark, and AWS.

  • Model time-series, reference data, and market data for Capital Markets.

  • Define and maintain data standards, naming conventions, and metadata best practices.

  • Optimize models for performance, scalability, and regulatory reporting.

  • Partner with business stakeholders to ensure domain consistency and semantic alignment.


Required Skills:

Expertise in data modeling tools (Erwin, ER/Studio, PowerDesigner, etc.)
Strong in relational, dimensional, and lakehouse data modeling
Experience with Parquet, Iceberg, and cloud-native storage formats
Deep understanding of Capital Markets data (trades, positions, risk, reference/master data)
10 years of hands-on data modeling experience


Preferred Skills:

  • Exposure to AWS data services, Databricks, Snowflake, DBT

  • Familiarity with data governance and lineage tools

  • Experience in Agile/Scrum delivery environments
