Job Description
Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the office three times per week or other frequency dictated by the business.
The Role
We are seeking a SDE (Service Design Engineer) for the EV Battery Systems Serviceability team dedicated to EV and Hybrid High Voltage Battery Hardware in Warren MI. The SDE will work with multi-functional groups and use engineering tools and processes to effectively develop, validate, and implement common serviceability specifications, service part release/information and simultaneous production across multiple vehicle platforms for Hybrid and EV High Voltage batteries.

The Role

The SDE will work with multi-functional groups and use engineering tools and processes to effectively develop, validate, and implement common serviceability specifications, service part release/information and simultaneous production across multiple vehicle platforms for Hybrid and EV High Voltage batteries.
What You'll Do
- Drive service technical requirements and evaluate RESS designs for serviceability in various engineering teams and forums.
- Ensure service part numbers are issued for service high voltage battery packs by creating sub-system service plans, and verify HV batteries are prepared to meet aftersales service requirements.
- Develop, design, and validate special tools and processes for serviceability of HV battery packs by GM dealer technicians.
- Seek opportunities for innovation by taking action on new insights and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to achieve warranty cost avoidance targets by using data and business case analysis.
- Provide technical support for various other teams including Program Management, PTR system, Parts Release, Remanufacturing, Service Training, Warranty Center, Technical Assistance, Assembly Plants, Field support, Advanced Engineering teams and others.
- Conduct business case studies for serviceability improvements over initial design.
- Prepare / Support Competitive Benchmarking Design Review Presentations for Rechargeable Energy Storage System (RESS).
Additional Job Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Automotive Technology, or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge and hands-on experience with EV propulsion system hardware design and manufacturing.
- 3+ years experience with service and/or HV propulsion systems.
- High level oral and written communication skills.
- Proven project management skills - project goals, advanced planning, identifying key partners, and aligning with the team to meet project deadlines.
- Ability to safely use technician tools and equipment, including vehicle hoist, battery support table, hand tools, electric and compressed air power tools.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Design for Six Sigma experience
- Automotive service experience at the wholesale or retail level
- Expertise in HV propulsion systems design and manufacturing
- Understanding of automotive service practices and procedures
- Hands-on experience in automotive diagnosis and repair
- Understand and use GM math data/drawings/specifications
- Knowledge of safety laws and internal GM requirements
- Understanding of GM service information development process
