Job Details

As a Software Engineer II in Calendar, you will drive the evolution of AI, powered scheduling systems, integrating backend services and l arge language model ( LLM), integrating with substrate a pplication programming interface ( API) and other Outlook services. You'll help deliver modern and intelligent Microsoft Calendar experiences across Monarch and Teams, accelerating innovation and creating a funnel for premium value through Places and Copilot.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and optimize backend services that power AI-driven scheduling agents, supporting millions of daily users.
  • Integrate LLMs, AI and machine learning ( ML) models to deliver intelligent, context-aware scheduling and coordination experiences.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and AI advancements to deliver transformative Copilot experiences that support calendar planning.
  • Integrate personal and organizational time/location data into the M365 graph to power Copilot and agent-based assistance.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and partner teams to define user requirements and deliver intelligent scheduling solutions that support hybrid work coordination.
  • Contribute to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight as well as break down larger work items into smaller work items and provides estimation.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on-call to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions and gains approval to restore system/product/service for simple problems.
  • Design and implement scalable backend services that power Microsoft Calendar experiences across Monarch and Teams, integrating deeply with substrate APIs, Copilot, and Places.
  • Drive architectural decisions and engineering excellence to ensure reliability, performance, and security in alignment with Microsoft's Secure Future Initiative (SFI).
  • Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and agile planning processes.
  • Embody the Microsoft culture and values.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python or Azure
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience building cloud-native applications and services.
  • Problem solving decomposition and presenting efficient solutions through scalable systems design and understanding of distributed systems, APIs, and telemetry.
  • User experience, product craftsmanship, and solving real-world problems.
Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python, or Azure
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in software development using C#, .NET, TypeScript, or similar technologies.
  • Experienced using software development agents / assistants to co-develop.
  • Experience with Microsoft Graph, M365 services, or workplace productivity tools.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML concepts, especially in the context of Copilot or agent-based systems.
  • Exposure to hybrid work scenarios, calendar systems, or workplace coordination platforms.
Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
