Senior Project Manager - Payroll

Our client, a leading building materials manufacturer headquartered in downtown Chicago, is seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Project Manager to lead the Payroll NextGen Project. This enterprise-level initiative involves transitioning from Oracle Payroll and Kronos Workforce Management to ADP Workforce and ADP Workforce Time & Attendance. The project is already in motion, and we're looking for a seasoned professional to drive execution, ensure alignment across stakeholders, and deliver results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end execution of the Payroll NextGen implementation, ensuring alignment with business objectives, timelines, and budget.

  • Own the project plan, including milestone tracking, risk management, and resource allocation.

  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration between business units, technical teams, and external vendors.

  • Drive stakeholder engagement through regular status updates, executive reporting, and issue resolution.

  • Oversee change management activities, including communication planning, training coordination, and adoption strategies.

  • Ensure project governance by maintaining documentation such as risk logs, decision registers, and compliance records.

  • Identify and mitigate risks proactively, resolving roadblocks to maintain project momentum.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of experience managing complex enterprise projects, preferably in payroll or HRIS system implementations.

  • PMP required.

  • Proven success leading implementations involving ADP, Oracle Payroll, Kronos, or similar platforms.

  • Strong command of project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid approaches).

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Ability to navigate matrixed environments and influence across all levels of the organization.

  • Experience working in hybrid work models and managing geographically dispersed teams.

This is a contract role expected to last through January 2026. Candidates must be comfortable working in a hybrid model (onsite in downtown Chicago part of the week).
