Purpose:

The R&D Engineer II is responsible for formulating concepts, creating designs, tools, fixtures, and testing methodologies. This role encompasses responsibilities within the Ultrasound group at Biosense Webster.

You will be responsible for:
  • Designing innovative devices that address customer requirements.
  • Enhancing processes for both initial and sustained scalability of new designs and methodologies.
  • Collaborating with fellow engineers and skilled technicians to construct and refine designs.
  • Creating and Evaluating design prototypes.
  • Engaging in in vitro and in vivo testing of devices.
  • Documenting designs and conducting testing to support Verification & Validation (V&V) activities.
  • Overseeing the transition of manufacturing technologies from concept through pilot phases to full-scale production.
  • Working alongside cross-functional quality and manufacturing teams.
  • Generating intellectual property and collaborating with patent attorneys to apply for patents.
  • Reporting business-related challenges or opportunities to higher management.
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Adhering to company guidelines related to Health, Safety, and Environmental practices and ensuring that all necessary resources are available and in proper condition when applicable.
  • Performing additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in physics, chemistry, biology, mechanical, electrical, biomedical engineering, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 2 years of engineering experience within the Medical Device industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to actively engage in problem-solving and resolution.
  • Capability to resolve issues employing sound engineering principles.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with a diverse client base.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%, both domestically and internationally.

Preferred:
  • Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Proficient in CAD software, particularly SolidWorks.
  • Ability to interpret 2D engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of quality standards applicable to medical devices.
  • Experience in statistical analysis and design of experiments (DOE).
  • Understanding of engineering materials, such as nitinol, precious metals, and/or polymers, as well as relevant manufacturing techniques.
  • Proven knowledge of process engineering principles related to manufacturing is highly desirable.

Other:
  • This position is full-time, onsite, five days a week in Irvine, CA.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%, both domestically and internationally.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
$74,000-$110,000

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis. Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance.
