General Overview
The Engineering Lab Supervisor plays a key role in supporting engineering and cross-functional initiatives by leading project management, testing, and documentation efforts related to design, process, and material validations. This role is located at our newly built lab in Ripley and works in close collaboration with the Minnesota-based team. This position will directly lead a team of Engineering Lab Technicians, ensuring successful execution of team goals and directives.
Key responsibilities managing and executing Design Verification Plans and Reports (DVP&Rs), participating in Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DEFMEAs), and overseeing the operation, maintenance, construction, and requisition of complex test fixtures. This role also involves designing, improving, executing, and effectively reporting engineering test requests and efforts across all levels of the organization. This position requires a blend of hands-on work, analysis, planning, independence, and leadership within the group as well as collaborative work with maintenance, tooling, and process engineering groups to drive company goals forward.

Overall Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Engineering Lab Technicians to support departmental objectives and technical excellence.
- Foster clear and consistent communication with the Minnesota-based engineering team to ensure alignment across sites.
- Apply critical and independent thinking to problem-solving, project execution, and process improvement. Manage multiple concurrent projects, including builds, high-priority experiments, and validation efforts. Schedule, manage, design, improve and execute tests to qualify new and existing components for product improvement, cost reduction, and/or regulatory compliance.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, calibrate, and improve test fixtures, ensuring operational reliability and performance.
- Develop and execute Design Verification Plans and Reports (DVP&Rs), informed by Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), with a strong focus on repeatability and reliability (R&R).
- Communicate test results through concise, well-structured documentation using tools such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Analyze and manage data using both scripted and non-scripted approaches to drive actionable insights.
- Establish and maintain a calibration schedule for all lab equipment to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Implement and uphold a comprehensive lab safety, cleaning, and maintenance program, including 5S principles.
- Develop, maintain, and improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and quality in lab operations.
- Monitor and manage component inventory levels and identify necessary parts to support ongoing equipment functionality and availability.
Qualifications, Skills, Competencies
Minimum:
- B.S. in Engineering or related field - chemical, mechanical, or electrical
- 5+ years of experience in product testing and test lab operations or equivalent experience
- Independently driven and capable of managing many projects at once
- Understanding of DFMEA, DVP&R, and R&R statistics driven experimentation
- Critical thinking skills around testing, product, process, and quality systems
- Knowledge of when to escalate problems or issues; able to communicate effectively
- Data-driven with a balance between data and intuition; strong documentation skills
- Collaborative and able to build partnerships and ensure shared success
- Demonstrates strategic thinking, operational intelligence, and sound judgment
- Able to inspire others and share passion for our vision, culture, and opportunity
- Proficiency Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
Desired:
- High mechanical aptitude and understanding of mechanical principles
- Knowledge of construction of test fixtures for mechanical, fluid dynamics, and chemical evaluations
- Test stand automation (PLC, Pneumatics, LabView)
- Understanding of data acquisition (DAQ) technology and methods
- Experienced with using tools, tool fixtures, and metrology systems especially pertaining to mechanics
- Experienced with using tools, especially related to plumbing, automation, and routing
- Experience with any the following applications/scripts: MatLab, Minitab, Python, R, Solidworks, Smap3D suite
- Knowledge of water chemistry and water treatment
- Knowledge of material properties, material mechanics, and common material failure modes
- Knowledge of plastics, particularly injection molded polymers
- Experience with common prototyping technologies included FDM and SLA 3D printing
