Job Title : Natural/ADABAS Developer

The client is seeking a Senior Application Support Developer to support the modernization and transition of the Mississippi Automated Child Welfare Information System (MACWIS) to a modern, CCWIS-compliant technology platform.
This role is critical to MDCPS s mission of improving service delivery, data accuracy, and system functionality. The selected candidate will work with both legacy systems and modern platforms, ensuring continued stability of current operations while driving new feature development and system enhancements.
**Key Responsibilities**
Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance legacy applications developed in Natural and VB6.
Develop new features and functionalities using .NET Framework (C#, ASP.NET).
Perform source data analysis and cleanup scripting (SQL, Natural) to address data duplication, data integrity issues, and orphaned records.
Support data migration planning from the legacy MACWIS platform to the modernized CCWIS platform.
Validate developed scripts and support system testing.
Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in technical planning sessions, project meetings, and inter-agency collaborations.
Contribute to system design, technical documentation, and modernization planning.
Act as a bridge between legacy systems and the future-state CCWIS environment.
**Required Skills & Experience**
10+ years of hands-on experience with:
Natural Programming Language
Visual Basic 6 (VB6)
SQL
Proficiency in .NET Framework (C#, ASP.NET).
Proven ability to maintain, enhance, and troubleshoot legacy production systems.
Strong background in data integration, batch processing, and file-based interfaces.
Experience in code refactoring, modularization, and system migration.
Familiarity with data mapping, conversion, and migration planning.
Proficiency with source control and change management tools (Git, SVN, TFS).
**Child Welfare Systems Experience**
Prior experience with Child Welfare Information Systems (SACWIS, MACWIS, or CCWIS preferred).
Strong understanding of child welfare business processes: case management, intake, service planning, licensing, and reporting.
Ability to translate child welfare program requirements into technical specifications.
**Professional Experience & Soft Skills**
Ability to manage competing priorities in fast-paced environments.
Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (analysts, testers, project managers).
Skilled in technical documentation and participation in design sessions.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication.
Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently or in a team.
Leadership experience in mentoring junior developers or leading development tasks.
**Preferred Qualifications**
Experience with child welfare modernization or large-scale system overhauls.
Knowledge of federal CCWIS compliance standards.
Experience with federal requirements for child welfare systems.
Experience with ADABAS database environments.
