Job Description

Our 28-person Boston based water resources team delivers cutting edge solutions to public and private clients of all sizes. We have expertise in water supply planning, groundwater and surface water modeling, water quality, stormwater/BMPs, collection system modeling and design support, hydraulics, hydrodynamic modeling, dam safety and emergency action planning, floodplain mapping, water distribution modeling, coastal erosion, sustainability and climate resiliency planning, data analytics, web-based data dashboards, watershed management, ocean outfalls, wave modeling, effluent recharge planning, water quality monitoring, and permitting support.

An ideal candidate would support our team's multiple projects under the direction and guidance of task and project managers. We are looking for candidates that can apply their experience and learn as they go.

CDM Smith is looking for a Water Resources Engineer to support our Ecosystem Restoration and Water Quality Practice. We are looking for a candidate to support the following work.

Planning and execution of water quality monitoring projects in lakes, rivers, and estuaries.

Data QA, interpretation and statistical analysis.

Hydrodynamic and quality modeling of outfalls, lakes, rivers, and estuaries using custom-developed code or existing water quality models.

The development and application of calculations and models using tools such as R, Python, or Excel.

Water quality permitting support, including anti-degradation studies, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit applications and appeals, and permitting strategy.

Working with the Climate Adaption Discipline to incorporate climate change impacts into project planning and design. Planning efforts will primarily be based upon the hydrologic and hydraulic evaluation of watersheds and the design of recommended infrastructure improvements.

Writing detailed, accurate, and concise technical reports.

Providing technical guidance, technical reviews, mentoring, and training to more junior staff.

GIS mapping and analysis.

Collaborating with sales staff to create proposals in response to client requests.

Meeting with current and potential future clients.

Attending conferences, symposia, etc. to improve the visibility of the firm's products and services in collaboration with applicable sales staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Civil, Coastal or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.

Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in states where an EIT is not obtainable (within 18 months of hire or promotion or transfer).

5 years of related experience.

Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.

Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Skills and Abilities

Expert knowledge of GIS software and practices.

Expert Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices.

Expert Knowledge of engineering principles of design.

Intermediate knowledge of hydraulics as appropriate for technical work.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Expert Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.).

Solid knowledge of other support tools such as mathematical models, scripting languages, etc.
