Job Location : Carlsbad, CA (4 days onsite)

Project Details:

Viasat Global Enterprise and Mobility (GEM) is delivering high speed industry-leading, next-generation Ka-band satellite in-flight connectivity to leading Airline Companies. We are looking for an experienced, talented, and motivated individual to help build, evolve and operate our Commercial Air lab environment. In this role, you will work closely with our lab and engineering teams to operate and maintain simulated commercial airline test environments. You will be responsible for supporting, developing, and maintaining virtual and physical aircraft test equipment, as well as managing lab resources, and other responsibilities to ensure the highest level of quality the labs provide. You will be part of an evolving and fast-growing industry and will work within a multi-disciplinary team set in a dynamic Agile development environment.
What You Will Do:
  • Troubleshoot and triage system alerts for senior level issues.
  • Work closely with the lab and engineering teams to operate and maintain simulated commercial airline test environments
  • Support, develop, and maintain virtual and physical aircraft test equipment, as well as manage lab resources, and other responsibilities to ensure the highest level of quality the labs provide

Required:

  • Proficient in triaging advanced system and network alerts across enterprise environments.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise network architecture, data center ecosystems, and hybrid cloud infrastructures.
  • Hands-on experience with virtualization and SDN platforms (e.g., VMware, NSX).
  • Advanced Linux and Windows administration with emphasis on network services, security hardening, and patching.
  • Expertise in networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, BGP, OSPF), routing, subnetting, NAT, and firewall configurations.
  • Experience managing network hardware and appliances (Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, F5, NetScaler).
  • Skilled in performance tuning, latency optimization, capacity planning, and network analytics.
  • Strong automation skills using Python, PowerShell, Ansible, or PowerCLI.
  • Familiar with network security (VPNs, ACLs, IDS/IPS, auditing, SIEMs like Splunk or ELK).
  • Able to identify and automate manual operational workloads through tooling and scripting.
  • Comfortable with network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, NetFlow, Wireshark, Nagios).
  • Collaborative mindset with experience across network engineering, DevOps, and security teams.
  • Proven ability to mentor junior/intermediate engineers and lead troubleshooting of complex, multi-platform issues.
  • Strong documentation habits, organizational skills, and ability to work across distributed teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical and stakeholder audiences.
  • Willing to travel up to 10%.
