What does this role look like?
The Hypersonics Advanced Programs team is looking for a Deputy Chief Engineer on the Razor team for a Research and Development project. In this role, you will report to the Chief Engineer.
Provide technical leadership and guidance to a team of cross-functional engineers, fostering a culture of mission success and collaboration
Make informed technical decisions, as delegated by the Chief Engineer, to ensure sound technical solutions and proposals
Chairs or attends Engineering Review Boards, Failure Review Boards, Qualification Review Boards, and other programmatic decision making forums as delegated by the Chief Engineer
Champion a mission success culture, driving a positive and inclusive team environment
Support formal risk management processes and develop effective mitigation strategies to ensure program success
Assess and guide decision-making across the system lifecycle, considering all aspects from concept to flight test to tactical implementation
Provide technical guidance and expertise to engineering staff, including mentoring and coaching junior engineers
Support assessments of key performance parameters, technical performance measures, and requirement compliance for the system design
Participate in formal system design reviews (PDR, CDR, etc)
Lead failure investigations to ensure rigor and develop robust corrective actions
Collaborate with a variety of engineering disciplines across a small, (hypersonic) fast-paced, dynamic program; adapting to the rapidly changing environment of a development program on a challenging schedule
Use your excellent communication skills and self-motivating drive to work across Lockheed Martin business areas to progress towards a common goal
Promote a positive teamwork culture within a small, diverse team spread across multiple sites
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in an engineering or STEM related field
Experience as a technical design lead for hardware or software development
Demonstrated experience with integration and test
Demonstrated engineering leadership experience working as CPE (Certified Professional Engineer), RSE (Responsible Systems Engineer), Design Lead, Technical Lead, Technical Program Manager, or in a similar role
Must have an Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance
Ability to travel to LM and supplier sites across United States (~1wk/mo)
Desired skills
Minimum 10 years of experience in an engineering leadership role
Proven track record of success in managing complex engineering projects and teams
Proactive problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think critically and creatively with limited direction
Experience working in the Hypersonics technology domain
Experience with Aerospace industry hardware/software design qualification
Experience leading Failure Review Boards or similar failure investigation processes
Experience on a missile flight test program
Experience with the LM CPE/RSE Program or similar Responsible Engineer process
Experience evaluating product technology readiness levels and developing product technology strategies

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $139,600 - $246,100. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer. Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays. (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays.
