1. Risk Management:
- Collecting Risks from DFMEAs:
- The engineer will work with the design team to gather risks identified through Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA). This process involves reviewing potential failure modes for components and systems.
- Sorting Risks by Severity:
- After collecting the risks, they are sorted based on their Risk Priority Number (RPN), which is a combination of the likelihood of failure and the severity of the failure.
2. Test and Simulation Planning:
- Identifying Mitigation Strategies:
- Based on the identified risks, the engineer helps determine appropriate mitigation strategies, which may involve virtual simulations or physical tests (bench, lab, or full machine).
- The goal is to determine the most cost-effective and time-efficient way to reduce or eliminate the risks.
3. System Readiness & Reporting:
- Gathering System Readiness Summaries:
- The engineer collects system readiness data from component and sub-system teams to ensure all parts of the ePowertrain are ready for validation.
- Creating Validation One-Pagers:

- The engineer maintains and tracks "issue-lists " for ongoing ePowertrain programs. These lists contain known issues and their resolutions or mitigation strategies.
- Forecasting Defects Per Unit:
- The engineer will forecast potential defects per unit based on historical data and ongoing validation results to estimate future performance.
5. Reliability Forecasting:
- Creating Reliability Curves:
- The engineer generates proactive reliability curves, which predict the performance and durability of the ePowertrain system over time, helping to assess its long-term viability and performance.
6. Collaboration:
- Interacting with Cross-Functional Teams:
- This role involves regular collaboration with the ePowertrain system design team, other validation engineers, component teams, and system managers.
- The engineer communicates technical concepts and risks to various teams, helping align everyone on goals and action items.
7. Test Activity Estimation:
- The engineer estimates how long different test activities will take, what resources or instrumentation are needed, and how to balance the time and cost involved in testing.
- This forecasting helps create a clear validation timeline for the ePowertrain system.
8. Learning and Development:
- Collaboration with Experienced Engineers:
- The engineer listens to more experienced engineers, implements their suggestions, and uses this as a learning opportunity to gain deeper insights into validation planning and testing.
