Our Maps team is charged with aggregating, processing, filtering and conflating data from many sources and multiple modalities and presenting a unified, rich, and up to date set of Points of Interest (POIs) to hundreds of millions of Apple Maps users across the world! At Apple, our team provides the foundation for building extraordinary customer experiences, with features that have become an indispensable part of so many lives around the world. We are looking for a Machine Learning Scientist/Engineer who can take projects from initial data mining and research through all stages of prototyping, development, and final integration of AI / ML data solutions into the production code that goes out to the users.

Description As a member of our team, you'll have the opportunity to work with a team of highly skilled engineers and scientists to bring new experiences to Apple Maps. This position requires a self-motivated engineer/scientist with strong technical and interpersonal skills to handle responsibilities including: We are looking for a Machine Learning Scientist / Engineer who will be converting abstract, high-level goals into concrete, measurable requirements. They will be proposing, implementing, evaluating, and shipping di?erent AI/ML technologies and resulting data to achieve a given task. This role will be collaborating with various partners, including engineering orgs and designers to architect the best overall system!

Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in building large scale machine learning systems
  • 2+ years of experience in one or more of the following ML areas: generative AI models (e.g. Transformers, LLMs, VLMs, etc), NLP and text data, Computer Vision
  • Intuitive understanding of machine learning algorithms, supervised and unsupervised modeling techniques and their performance characteristics
  • Experience working with large scale and real world datasets
  • Deep learning, computer vision, topic modeling, graph algorithms are pluses
  • Metrics focused and passionate about delivering models that render high quality results
  • Strong programming skills and hands-on experience with machine learning tools and libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn; programming skills in Scala, Python, Java, or C++
  • Knowledge of Spark, Apache Hadoop, Solr/Lucene, Cassandra, and related big data technologies

Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters or PhD degree in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related fields.
  • Hands on experience with multi-modal foundation models and understanding of state of the art approaches in the field
  • Experience shipping a complex AI system, including research and leveraging generative AI models
  • Excellent independent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Pay & Benefits At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $264,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
