Job Title: Principal Infrastructure Architect (Azure / Hybrid Cloud)

Location: Hoffman Estates, IL (Onsite, 5 days/week)
Type: 6-month Contract-to-Hire

About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on, senior infrastructure leader to design, implement, and optimize our enterprise infrastructure across data center, cloud (Azure), network, storage, and compute environments. This role combines technical mastery, strategic vision, and leadership, guiding a small team of engineers while driving modernization and automation initiatives.

You will also play a forward-looking role in preparing our platforms for AI and automation adoption, ensuring infrastructure is scalable, secure, and ready for the future.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the design and implementation of hybrid cloud infrastructure with a focus on Azure adoption.

  • Architect solutions across compute, storage, and network, ensuring high availability and disaster recovery readiness.

  • Drive infrastructure automation using Terraform, Ansible, or PowerShell DSC.

  • Mentor and guide a small team of infrastructure engineers, including offshore team members.

  • Collaborate with security, service desk, and applications teams to enforce best practices and compliance.

  • Identify opportunities for automation and AI readiness in IT and business operations.

  • Own infrastructure documentation, runbooks, and technical standards.

Must-Have Skills & Experience

  • 8 12 years of progressive IT infrastructure experience, with at least 2 years in a senior engineering/leadership role.

  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, VMware/vSphere, Windows and Linux servers.

  • Strong knowledge of networking: routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, SD-WAN.

  • Proven experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell DSC).

  • Expertise in disaster recovery planning and execution.

  • Experience mentoring onshore and offshore infrastructure engineers.

Nice-to-Have / Differentiators

  • Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect)

  • VMware or networking certifications (e.g., VCP, CCNP)

  • Experience preparing infrastructure for AI adoption or intelligent automation

  • Familiarity with monitoring platforms like SolarWinds, Azure Monitor, or Splunk
