This Opportunity
POWER Engineers, Member of WSP, is currently initiating a search for a Transmission Planning Engineer for our Denver, CO office. You will be involved in projects with our SCADA and Analytical Services Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.
Provides technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, design, development, and construction of utility, industrial, and commercial scale projects in the public and private sector. Routinely assist with the research, design, concept development, and construction of transmission and distribution substations, power distribution, power regulation, renewable energy, as well as protection and control systems in a wide variety of contexts (utilities, transportation, building, and Federal, State, and local government projects). Substantiates reports and documentation regarding material, installations, component, and construction specifications. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Your Impact
- This role requires significant experience in network studies for utilities and ISOs with the ability to lead others in this work as well.
- This individual will be responsible for interfacing with other engineers in the preparation of computer-based models and performing power system studies on utility transmission & distribution systems and industrial/commercial electrical power systems.
- Work includes feasibility studies, system impact studies, reactive compensation studies, critical clearing time, stability (transient & dynamic), long/short range planning studies, short circuit, load flow, interconnection model development, power factor correction, and other related studies.
- This person must be able to self-manage their time and have strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills including the capability to explain complex technical issues at a variety of levels to decision-makers and project teams.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications (yellow highlighted bullets required)
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- 5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience in transmission planning
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience with PSS/E
- Experience with leading projects and mentoring others
- Familiarity with ERCOT, its interconnection processes, and its system impact study requirements
- Willing to travel (up to 10% at times)
- Ability to work successfully in a customer-focused, project-oriented environment
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MSEE or PhD
- Five (5) + years experience with PSS/E
- Seven to ten (7-10) years of experience in transmission planning studies
- Familiarity with additional RTOs regarding interconnection process and system impact studies
- PE registration (or equivalent)
- Additional desirable software: PSLF, TARA, PSCAD, Aspen Oneliner, ETAP, Power World and others as applicable
- Coding experience and automation development
