RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client in Santa Clara, CA that is seeking a Materials Characterization Technician/Engineer. As part of materials characterization team, you will be expected to review data from other analysts and coordinate the use of multiple techniques, to drive better understanding of the correlation between materials properties and performance in a system.
Responsibilities:
* Analyze materials properties using various characterization techniques and communicate results to the team
* Develop methods for new materials using previous experience, and evaluate use of new techniques with regard to enabling better materials understanding
* Interface with engineering and management personnel to understand the goals of the materials analysis
* Determine best techniques to use to attain the desired information
* Acquire and analyze data using standard materials analysis techniques, including: cross-sectioning, microscopy, phase and microstructure analysis, ellipsometry, Raman, and lock-in thermography
* Prepare samples for analysis and ensure sample piece location is controlled
* Follow established methodology and develop/implement new methods as needed to provide analytical support for all aspects of production
* Interface with other departments including production and R&D to collaborate on projects involving characterization
* Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment including sample storage areas and sample archival
REQUIREMENTS:
* B.S. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering or related fields
* 3+ years of hands-on experience working in a laboratory
* 3+ years of daily working experience on ICP (inductively coupled plasma) lab tasks, including but not limited to sample preparation techniques, ICP-MS (mass spectroscopy) and ICP-OES (optical emission spectroscopy)
* Must be trained to handle chemicals including but not limited to hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, hydrofluroric acid, methanol, and acetone, necessary for routine lab tasks
* Highly desirable to have hands-on X-ray Diffraction (XRD) experience
* Highly desirable to have hands-on SEM/EDS experience
* Highly desirable to have SOP (standard operating procedure) design and improvement experience
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
