Job Details

Our client in the oil and gas industry has an immediate opening for an HR Payroll Specialist for a part-time contract opportunity.

Duration: 74 weeks (through December 31, 2026)
Location: Houston, TX 77079 (Woodcreek Office - Hybrid: 2 days onsite/week)
Schedule: Part-time hours within standard business hours (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM CST)

Hourly Pay Rate: $18.97

Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team on a part-time contract basis. The selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing payroll functions in a complex, unionized environment, ensuring compliance with labor laws, internal policies, and control frameworks. This role requires strong analytical skills, discretion with sensitive data, and the ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.

Key Responsibilities:
Manage all payroll operations in compliance with federal/state legislation and labor laws
Interpret and apply collective bargaining agreements, HR policies, and internal procedures
Serve as the focal point for audits and inquiries from tax authorities
Respond to complex payroll and timekeeping inquiries through Salesforce case management
Analyze payroll/time data and resolve discrepancies using a deep understanding of system configurations
Execute key controls to align with internal control frameworks
Collaborate with HR, Finance, and external stakeholders to ensure payroll accuracy and timeliness

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field
7+ years of payroll experience, with at least 5 years in a large, complex, unionized organization
Hands-on experience with SAP HR/Payroll, CATS, and Workday HR
Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel)
Strong understanding of U.S. payroll regulations, data privacy, and internal controls
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
Excellent interpersonal skills and stakeholder communication experience
High attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee data

Preferred:
Prior experience supporting payroll-related audits or regulatory reviews
