Sr. Depot Manager 3PL needed for a Direct Hire position in Wilmington, OH!
Position Summary: The 3PL and Depot Senior Manager is responsible for overseeing and optimizing third-party logistics partnerships and depot operations to ensure efficient, cost-effective distribution and warehousing services. This role requires strategic leadership in managing vendor relationships, operational excellence, and cross-functional collaboration to meet customer service objectives while driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities: 3PL Management:
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with third-party logistics providers, negotiating contracts, service level agreements, and performance metrics
- Monitor 3PL performance against KPIs including cost per unit, on-time delivery, accuracy rates, and customer satisfaction scores
- Conduct regular business reviews with 3PL partners and implement corrective action plans when performance gaps are identified
- Lead RFP processes for new 3PL partnerships and evaluate potential vendors for network expansion
- Oversee billing reconciliation and cost management across all 3PL relationships
Depot Operations:
- Manage day-to-day operations of distribution depots including inventory management, order fulfillment, and shipping coordination
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and company policies across all depot locations
- Optimize warehouse layouts, processes, and technology systems to maximize efficiency and minimize costs
- Coordinate with transportation teams to ensure optimal load planning and delivery schedules
Team Leadership:
- Lead and develop a team of logistics coordinators, depot supervisors, and support staff
- Provide coaching, performance feedback, and career development opportunities for direct reports
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence
Strategic Planning:
- Develop annual operating plans and budgets for 3PL and depot operations
- Analyze network capacity requirements and recommend expansion or consolidation strategies
- Implement process improvements and technology solutions to enhance operational efficiency
- Support new product launches and seasonal demand planning initiatives
Stakeholder Management:
- Collaborate with sales, customer service, and supply planning teams to ensure alignment on service requirements
- Communicate operational performance and issues to senior leadership
- Serve as primary escalation point for critical customer or operational issues
Required Qualifications: Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field
- 7-10 years of progressive experience in logistics, warehousing, or supply chain operations
- 3+ years of experience managing 3PL relationships and vendor partnerships
- 2+ years of people management experience
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong understanding of warehouse management systems (WMS), transportation management systems (TMS), and ERP platforms
- Proven track record of managing complex logistics networks and multi-site operations
- Excellent analytical skills with ability to interpret data and drive decision-making
- Strong negotiation and contract management capabilities
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills
- Project management experience with ability to lead cross-functional initiatives
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and logistics software platforms
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree or professional certification (APICS, CSCMP, etc.)
- Experience in IT equipment distribution and logistics
- Lean Six Sigma certification or continuous improvement training
- Experience with automated warehouse technologies and systems
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in warehouse environments and walk extended distances
- Occasional travel to depot locations and 3PL facilities (up to 25%)
