Position Overview

The CAD Administrator is responsible for overseeing and managing the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to ensure its optimal functionality, security, and efficiency. This role requires technical expertise in software installation, configuration, troubleshooting, database management, and end-user training. The CAD Administrator supports public safety agencies by maintaining the CAD system, mobile data terminals, records management systems, and ensuring data accuracy for statistical and trend analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • CAD System Management: Oversee the operation, maintenance, and configuration of Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) software. The CAD Administrator manages the CAD and mobile application software settings to ensure efficient operation. This includes software setup, security, code file maintenance, version updates, and managing support issues. The CAD administrator manages CAD system databases to ensure data accuracy, which includes updating information on streets, subdivisions, and response locations. The administrator will also evaluate data for new streets and subdivisions and input the information into the CAD system.

  • Software Installation & Configuration: Install, configure, implement, and update CAD and related applications for operational efficiency. In addition, the CAD Administrator is responsible for setting up and maintaining users and vehicles, as well as making minor configuration changes to the CAD and mobile products.

  • Database & Security Management: Manage, fine-tune, and ensure the security of CAD databases and file management systems. The CAD administrator enforces system security to maintain accuracy and collaborates on security recommendations.

  • Troubleshooting & Technical Support: Diagnose and resolve system issues, including software malfunctions and user access problems. The CAD administrator provides administrative and front-line application support to the public safety communications team, as well as technical support to system end-users. The CAD administrator will also respond to all end-user inquiries.
  • User Account Management: Create, modify, and delete end-user accounts while ensuring compliance with security protocols.
  • Equipment & Log Maintenance: Maintain records of CAD system hardware, software licenses, and ensure up-to-date documentation.
  • Report Generation & Data Analysis: Prepare and submit routine and special reports to management, analyzing system performance and data trends.
  • Integration & Collaboration: Work with IT teams, dispatch personnel, emergency responders, and third-party vendors to enhance CAD functionality. In addition, the CAD Administrator will work with GIS, IT, Police, Fire, and EMS records departments, and also liaise with vendors and technical subject matter experts.
  • Policy and Procedure Development: The CAD administrator will assist in the development, maintenance, and oversee policies and procedures related to CAD. This includes defining roles and responsibilities for system changes, permission access, and other technology management processes.

  • System Security: The CAD administrator enforces system security to maintain accuracy and collaborates on security recommendations.

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 5+ years of public safety applications experience involving CAD/Mobile systems, and other emergency 911 center operations
  • Basic knowledge and experience with Mobile CAD functionality
  • Trainer/Instructor experience (desirable)
  • Basic knowledge and experience of GPS systems (desirable)
  • Basic knowledge and knowledge of CAD mapping and layers.
  • Previous experience with Tri-Tech Software (highly desirable)
  • Experience with a Windows-based CAD system
  • Experience with or deploying enterprise hardware and software solutions (highly desirable).
  • Law Enforcement, Fire, or EMS experience (desirable)
  • Member of the Association of Public-Safety Communication Officials (APCO) (desirable)
