As the nation's leading health solutions company, we reach millions of Americans through our local presence, digital channels and more than 300,000 purpose-driven colleagues - caring for people where, when and how they choose in a way that is uniquely more connected, more convenient and more compassionate. And we do it all with heart, each and every day.

About the Role

We are seeking a Principal Engineer to drive the modernization of our Rx (prescription) platform. This is a techno-functional leadership role that blends deep technical expertise with a strong product mindset. You will be at the forefront of reimagining how we deliver prescription services-driving architectural decisions, building scalable systems, and ensuring we solve the right problems for our users.

You will work closely with business teams, designers, and cross-functional engineering teams to define and deliver solutions that are not only technically sound but also aligned with business goals and user needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Rx Modernization Backlog: Drive product features and requirements to build modern, scalable, and resilient systems to transform our prescription platform.
  • Techno-Functional Leadership: Act as a bridge between Operations and engineering-translating business problems into technical solutions and vice versa.
  • Problem Discovery & Framing: Collaborate with stakeholders to deeply understand the "why" behind problems, ensuring we solve the right ones.
  • Product Thinking: Champion a user-centric approach to engineering-prioritizing outcomes over output.
  • Hands-on: Write high-quality, maintainable product features and user specs and guide teams through complex technical challenges.
  • Mentorship & Influence: Mentor engineers across teams and influence architectural and product direction.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Operations, design, data, and operations to deliver end-to-end solutions.

Required Skills :
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5+ years in a product-focused or techno-functional role.
  • 5+ years of Proven experience in large-scale platform transformations.
  • 5 + years experience in modern backend technologies (e.g., Java, Node.js, Go, or similar) and cloud-native architectures (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure).

Preferred Skills:
  • Deep understanding of system design, APIs, data modeling, and distributed systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically about product and technology trade-offs.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with pharmacy technology/dispensing/workflows is required
