Job Details

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking an Information Technology (IT) Infrastructure Engineer for the Data-Driven Debrief (D3) team at Nellis AFB, NV.

Candidate will be responsible for work in a multitasking, quick-paced, dynamic environment supporting USAF Warfare Center Large Force Exercises, Operational Test and Tactics Development. Candidate will support debrief, planning and execution of Chairman, Joint Chief of Staff (CJCS), Combatant Command (COCOM), and Major Command (MAJCOM)-level exercises and events.

Candidate will serve as IT Infrastructure Engineer for the Data-Driven Debrief (D3) team under the D3 Chief Engineer. Primary duties include designing, deploying, and maintaining reliable infrastructure that spans cloud services and on-premise environments. Candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the stability, security, and scalability of our IT infrastructure, and provide recommendations on IT environments, tools, processes, requirements, mission sets, and capabilities for our mission partners. Candidate will support the implementation of recommendations as needed. Candidate will determine technical requirements for the D3 team and support purchase and implementation to meet team needs. Candidate will remain abreast of the latest in tools, techniques, and emerging capabilities, to include artificial intelligence / machine learning (AI/ML).

Candidate will support technical aspects of planning, coordination, and execution of exercises / demonstrations / experiments, either remote or in-person at CONUS or OCONUS locations. Additionally, the candidate will support the customer organization in meeting administrative requirements and provide planning and advisory assistance to facilitate exercise learning objectives.

Candidate tasks may include:
  • Capture and refine business and technical requirements, processes, and work with cross-functional teams for D3 tools and exercises
  • Provide technical support to exercise planning and execution
  • Provide advice on D3-related tools, including assessment of technical specifications and development of recommended solutions and optimizations
  • Design, deploy, and manage scalable cloud-based solutions, optimize resource utilization, and ensure security and compliance across cloud environments
  • Maintain and troubleshoot server environments, manage user access controls, ensure system security, and perform routine updates and backups
  • Track system performance, identify and resolve issues, ensure uptime, and optimize resource utilization across IT environments
  • Configure and secure network connectivity, troubleshoot network issues, optimize performance, and ensure reliable communication between systems
  • Create and manage virtualized environments, improve resource allocation, enhance system flexibility, and reduce hardware dependency
  • Develop, deploy, scale, and orchestrate containerized applications, ensure portability, and maintain consistency across development and production environments
  • Streamline configuration management, provision resources, and automate deployment processes across environments to enhance operational efficiency and reduce manual tasks
  • Automate build, test, and deployment processes and improve software development efficiency

Required Skills:
  • At least 8 years of professional experience in DevOps, Site Reliability, or Infrastructure Engineering roles is highly desired
  • Proficiency with cloud infrastructure services (e.g., MS Azure, AWS, Google Cloud)
  • Proficiency in system administration tools and platforms (e.g., Linux, Windows Server)
  • Proficiency with infrastructure monitoring tools (e.g., Splunk)
  • Proficiency with networking protocols and technologies (e.g., TCP/IP, VPNs, Firewalls)
  • Proficiency with virtualization technologies and best practices (e.g., VMware, VDI)
  • Proficiency with containerization technologies and best practices (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Podman)
  • Proficiency in infrastructure automation (e.g., PowerShell, Ansible
  • Proficiency with DevOps and CI/CD workflows and tools (e.g., GitLab, GitHub)
  • Strong ability to work in a team environment with demonstrated leadership and customer interface skills.
  • Possess strong analytic skills and be capable of operating in a demanding environment while handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills with ability to provide briefings to customers.

Desired Skills:
  • Familiarity with ITIL practices for service management
  • Knowledge of DevSecOps, security principles, IAM policies, and cloud compliance standards
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies (e.g., Kanban, Scrum)
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point
  • Relevant cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Certified, or Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect).

Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology (IT), Engineering, or a related field.

Travel Requirements:

Travel is expected to support exercise events. Candidates should anticipate one trip per quarter. Non-traditional work hours will be required for exercise execution events. Expectation is that work will be performed on-site. Occasional telework options may be available with approval from mission partner.

Clearance Requirements:

Current Top Secret (TS) Security Clearance with SCI eligibility and the ability to obtain access to Special Access Required (SAR) Programs and Special Technical Operations (STO) required.

U.S. Citizenship is required.
