Job Description Summary:
The Systems Engineering Data Retrieval, Engineering, Architecture, and Management (DREAM) Group is part of Draper's Digital Engineering & Enabling Technologies Division. The Group Leader is responsible for architecting, building, and managing Data-as-a-Service for the Digital Engineering Ecosystem (DEE) data suppliers and consumers. The group specializes in data schema definitions, storage and retrieval, and analysis pipelines to support Digital Engineering and Data Analysis across the entire system lifecycle. Provided services are expected to be managed to ensure appropriate levels of data availability, quality, protection, and governance. These services are intended to support establishing Authoritative Source of Truth (ASoT) and Digital Thread capabilities with heterogenous data sources and formats.
The DREAM group has cross-disciplinary competencies, focused on Systems, Software and Data Engineering. Skills in the group include data architecture & engineering, databases, data pipelines, data modeling, data science, Extract/Transform/Load processes, test data analytics and visualization, data warehouses and data lakes, containerization, data orchestration, and cloud computing. The group fosters a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
The Group Leader is responsible for leading and managing a group of approximately 10-20 engineers who have technical and domain expertise related to Draper's capabilities that support our customers, and is expected to:
Assure the long-term success of the group by shaping the group's talented workforce through recruiting and mentoring
Partner with Customers/Sponsors, Draper Program Managers and subject matter experts to shape and then implement strategic plans and roadmaps
Support and enable the technical and career growth of individual staff members by performing regular check-ins and annual performance reviews, as well as advocating for leadership, mentorship, and training opportunities
Contribute to the successful execution of ongoing projects by ensuring the quality of technical work products produced by the group
Be a key technical contributor in project execution and program development activities
Set an example of technical excellence and leadership for the group
Additional technical responsibilities include the following-
Provide expertise and oversight for the development of the data management infrastructure to enable DE expertise such as digital thread and digital twin
Provide leadership in tool selection, procurement, implementation, and adoption
Lead the enhancement of group capabilities by growing technical expertise through cross-training, educational series, and coordination of conference participation
Peer review project concepts and execution, as well as contribute to proposals and other business development efforts

Shape Draper's technology offerings and open new business areas based on program and technical experience.
Analyze Draper strategy and work with management to build capability in key areas that align Draper's capabilities with customer's strategic priorities.
Skills/Abilities
Excellent communication and written skills.
Excellent ability with presenting technical material to various levels of the engineering organization and customers.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications.
Strong ability to supervise a team of 10-20.
Education
Requires a degree in Engineering or related discipline.
Experience
5-7 years of experience in the engineering; design, development, and management of complex systems.

Preferred Qualifications
BS in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or other technically relevant engineering field with 6+ years of both direct "hands-on" work in the development and application of data architectures for complex system development projects. MS Degree or PhD preferred.
Flexibility to multi-task and adapt to evolving priorities
Demonstrated skills in leadership, innovation, creativity, and collaboration
Experience with conflict resolution, employee development, and mentoring
Demonstrated proficiency with data engineering, databases, data science, and analytical techniques
Prior experience defining governing business rules and technical requirements for design of ETL process and data pipelines
Familiar with best practices of data modeling, data engineering, and data governance
Preferred Qualifications:
Formal training in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Agile Development, and Cloud Computing best practices
Skilled with software configuration management and deployment best practices and tools including git, containerization, and CI/CD
Interest and/or experience in technology and market trends for Digital Engineering and/or data warehouses/lakes
Experience leading or contributing to technical and cost proposals particularly for government contracts
Experience with cross-domain solutions for correlating information between multiple classification levels
Cross functional awareness of priorities and ability to team with partnering organizations such as Information Technology, Security, Data Protection, and Information Assurance
Security Requirement:

The US base salary range for this full-time position is
$82,300.00 - $205,750.00
Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
