As a member of the IT Management Team, you are responsible for managing, developing, and leading a team of employees. Your role includes leading the specific functional responsibilities of your team, which involves overseeing team performance and deliverables. However, your role as a leader within our organization requires more than the management of resources and day-to-day operations. As a steward of the company, you are charged with the development and execution of your team's strategic vision and plan and ensuring that your team's actions align with the larger goals of the company and the IT Division.

As Director of Engineering, you will lead our Central Engineering, QA Automation, Enterprise Core Services API, Performance & Stress teams, driving the development and execution of a robust global engineering strategy. Your role will focus on optimizing engineering and developer standards, automation frameworks, ensuring system reliability through comprehensive performance testing, and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.

Your ability to align engineering practices with business objectives will be essential in delivering high-quality, scalable solutions that meet evolving industry needs.

ROLE

ADMINISTRATION: Ensures proper department coverage (writing schedule and break aids if needed). Understands department budget, able to research and explain budget variances.

MANAGING PERFORMANCE: Coaches and mentors' employees to provide support and guidance. Has regular open and honest conversations with employees to discuss work performance and career development. Identifies learning opportunities to strengthen employee knowledge, skill and ability.

COMMUNICATION: Regularly shares information with employees via meetings and one-on-one conversations. Successfully navigates difficult conversations with employees, members, and suppliers. Listens, expresses empathy and adapts to get points across. Addresses issues immediately to ensure a timely resolution and to avoid escalating the situation. Consistently demonstrates business knowledge during interactions with senior management.

SELF-MANAGEMENT: Demonstrates sound judgment, taking a partner when necessary. Ability to maintain self-control in the face of hostility or provocation or in intense, hectic situations.

Develops and executes a comprehensive enterprise architecture strategy that aligns with the company's business goals and long-term vision.

Defines and maintains the technology roadmap, ensuring that it supports current and future business needs, integrates with existing systems, and promotes digital transformation.

Collaborates with business stakeholders, IT teams, and external vendors to gather requirements, identify opportunities, and propose architectural solutions.

Assesses and mitigates technology risks, ensuring that security, compliance, and data privacy requirements are met across all architecture decisions.

Leads and mentors a team of enterprise architects, providing guidance, coaching, and support in their professional development.

Evaluates and selects technology vendors and partners to ensure they align with the company's architectural standards and goals.

Manages the budget for enterprise architecture initiatives, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and cost-effective solutions.

Communicates architectural decisions and strategies to senior leadership, technical teams, and other stakeholders.

This is a full-time management/leadership position (45 hours per week).

REQUIRED

7 years' proven track record in delivering technology or related fields.

7 years leading enterprise (cross functional) efforts

3 years leading delivering multi-region programs

Proven leadership experience in engineering enablement role.

Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills crossing multiple platforms.

Proven experience in software development patterns and practices.

Expertise in developing engineering standards and tooling landscapes.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Strong knowledge of retail industry practices and trends.

Demonstrable ability to drive change and influence stakeholders.

Strong leadership and team management skills.

HIPAA Training and Supervisors Orientation (within 30 days of hire); Leadership Development 101 (within one year); Costco Pay Policies (within 90 days of promotion).

Recommended

Executive presentation and delivery experience.

Manage portfolio (planning, scoping, governance) of major strategic launches.

Managed global programs leveraging cross-functional internal and external resources.

Proficient in Google Workspace applications, including Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Gmail.

Pay Range: $160,000 - $230,000, Potential Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible levels
