Description: Responsible for building and maintaining the day-to-day operation of computer networks that companies and organizations rely on. These networks typically include an intranet, extranet, local area network (LAN), and wide area network (WAN). Designs and plans network systems. Designing and developing the network for both LAN and WAN. Design, configure and deploy LAN and WAN network connections, hardware, software and communication links and services. Performing disaster recovery operations and data backups when required. Provides specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture. Provides specific, detailed information for technology selection, implementation, and deployment, and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements. Conducts testing of network systems. Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, switches, firewalls, proxies, load balancing, etc. Prepares appropriate network documentation, including operational instructions. Evaluates and reports on new network technologies, to enhance capabilities of the network. May require knowledge of network topography for cloud integration. May implement applications of machine to machine (M2M) communication to enhance the efficiency and security of the organization s operations.
Background/Need: Groups maintains and operates an airborne network wireless test bed in support of network research into tactical wireless communication systems. The test bed is composed of COTS switches, routers and work stations integrated with customized or prototype government furnished devices. The infrastructure is distributed across several locations and includes aircraft and mobile ground assets.

Roles and Responsibilities: Assist in maintenance and evolution of the airborne network wireless testbed. Integrate new devices and networks into the testbed. Maintain configuration control of the test bed network and oversee several secure components of the test infrastructure
Required Skills:
Proficiency with Layer 2 networking protocols (e.g. VLAN)
Proficiency with Layer 3 networking protocols (e.g. OSPF, BGP)
Familiarity with Layer 4 ports and protocols (e.g. TCP/IP)
Experience with network security; to include documenting network security and filing for policy exceptions
Experience with STIG compliance
Programming languages: Python, Go, Java
Toolset proficiency: EXSi, Microsoft Visio, EMACS
Has experience setting up IP network encryption devices and has experience designing and maintaining networks using DoD tactical wireless radios.
Experience configuring and maintaining DoD tactical radio systems: Iridium, INMARSAT (swift64), PRC-117G, AirCell, 5G Wi-Fi, Tactical Common Data Link, QNT
Proficiency in both Microsoft and Linux environments
Strong written and verbal skills
Ability to work on a team
A Cisco Certified Network Associate who has completed the Cisco Internetworking Course or equivalent experience configuring and maintaining commercial network infrastructure.
Applicant must have served as an ISSO for a complex system or similar experience for more than 5 years,
A BS in Computer Science or related field plus 5 years of experience or greater than 10 years of experience in the field of Network Engineering.
Nice to have items:
Willingness to participate in flight test activity; to include ability to obtain and maintain an FAA Class 3 Flight Physical
Familiarity with data dashboard development, with preference for Node-RED, or similar
Familiarity with network encryption and/or encryptors
Familiarity with OpenStreetMap
Familiarity with instrumentation, to include analog-to-digital system integration

Clearance: Candidate must have a secret level clearance for the start of this position
Work: This candidate will work in a hybrid model; 4 days onsite each week. There will be test cycles that require this person to be onsite 100% of the time during the testing.
