Location: Columbus, OH
Description: Our client is currently seeking a Data Catalog Admin (Lead)

We're looking for a Data Catalog Administrator with hands-on experience in platforms like Alation or Atlan to lead the management and optimization of our enterprise data catalog. You'll play a key role in enhancing metadata management, data discovery, governance, and lineage across the organization. This role is highly collaborative, working closely with data stewards, engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to improve data accessibility and governance.
Responsibilities
Data Catalog Management
  • Administer, configure, and maintain the enterprise Data Catalog platform.
  • Integrate the catalog with diverse data sources including databases, data lakes, BI tools, and applications.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize configurations for scalability and reliability.
Metadata Management & Governance
  • Oversee metadata ingestion, curation, and classification to support data discovery.
  • Collaborate with governance teams to enforce data standards, policies, and lineage tracking.
  • Implement and manage role-based access control (RBAC) and data security protocols.
Collaboration & Enablement
  • Partner with technical and business teams to drive data literacy and catalog adoption.
  • Conduct onboarding and training sessions for users to maximize platform utilization.
  • Maintain documentation and promote best practices for metadata and catalog usage.
Continuous Improvement
  • Evaluate new features and enhancements in the catalog platform and recommend improvements.
  • Automate catalog-related tasks using APIs and scripting tools.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in data governance and cataloging.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience administering Alation, Atlan, or similar data catalog platforms.
  • Strong understanding of metadata management, data governance, and data lineage.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with databases such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or SQL Server.
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot integration and performance issues in catalog platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with ETL tools, APIs, and scripting languages (Python, SQL).
  • Knowledge of cloud environments and data lakes (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
  • Hands-on experience with BI tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
  • Certifications in Alation, Atlan, or data governance frameworks.
