Position: Environmental Health & Safety Engineer

Location:Tucson, Arizona

Project Duration till November 8th, 2025 w/ possibility of extension

Rate: Negotiable Based on Experience

Job Summary: Apex Systems is seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Engineer to support and implement health and safety programs at our clients facilities. The EH&S Engineer will serve as a technical resource, develop policies and procedures, conduct investigations, and provide training to ensure compliance with various regulations and standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support and implement health and safety programs, including electrical safety, explosives safety, non-ionizing/ionizing radiation, laser safety, lockout/tagout (LOTO), cranes/hoists, fall protection, machine guarding, job hazard analysis, powered industrial vehicles, and others as assigned.
  • Serve as a technical resource for engineering reviews of Raytheon/customer facilities, processes, and products by interpreting and applying OSHA, EPA, DOT, NIOSH, ANSI, NFPA, IFC, IBC, and other applicable regulations and standards.
  • Act as the EH&S engineer for assigned buildings and engineering programs.
  • Develop and implement EH&S policies and procedures in assigned customer areas.
  • Collaborate across departments to achieve and maintain consistency in health and safety program implementation.
  • Conduct injury investigations and root cause analysis, develop corrective actions, and track them to completion.
  • Support the site in meeting EH&S requirements for internal and external audits, including ADOSH VPP and other internal company assessments.
  • Provide support for other site EH&S programs, such as industrial hygiene programs.
  • Deliver instructor-led training on various safety topics.

Required Skills:
  • Knowledge and ability to apply OSHA regulations and ANSI standards.
  • Ability to effectively organize and manage multiple projects and programs in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating effective prioritization and implementation skills.
  • Flexibility to accept additional assignments, campaigns, and rotations to other EH&S programs.

Desired Skills:
  • Experience applying health and safety requirements in an engineering lab and/or field test environment.
  • Knowledge of Enablon EH&S software.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP).
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelors Degree in a related field.

Performance Metrics:
  • 80% on-time closure of injury investigations and safety concerns/near misses within 30 days.
  • 100% on-time closure of audit/inspection findings.
  • Proactive engagement with customers to meet 2025 safety goals, such as a 0.29 total recordable injury rate (TRIR) and a 0.10 lost day incident rate (LDIR).
