We're looking for a detail-oriented and highly organized Technical Writer to support documentation efforts for complex technical systems within a defense-focused environment. This role centers around producing clear, concise, and accurate publications-including manuals, work instructions, reports, and maintenance guides-related to advanced electronic and mechanical systems supporting the National Space Test and Training Complex (NSTTC).

You'll work directly with engineers and other technical subject matter experts to capture and convey critical information, ensuring documentation meets government and contract standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create, revise, format, and proofread various documents including user manuals, operation and maintenance instructions, proposals, plans, and procedural documentation.

  • Collaborate with engineers and technical staff to gather information and translate it into accurate, easy-to-understand written content.

  • Edit and organize project schedules, software/hardware reference guides, and other technical publications in accordance with contractual and military documentation standards.

  • Manage and maintain the Technical Data Library (TDL), ensuring records and revisions are archived properly for department continuity.

  • File correspondence into the Data Management Log (DML) for record-keeping and compliance.

  • Perform quality assurance checks on all materials, including textual and visual content, verifying technical accuracy, clarity, grammar, and adherence to formatting guidelines.

  • Assign, track, and manage the Annual Review (AR) workflows for documentation updates.

  • Contribute to highly specialized documents under the direction of senior technical publishers when required.

  • Meet tight proposal and production deadlines while maintaining high documentation standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or formal training in Technical Writing, Communications, English, or a related field.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in technical writing, ideally in a government, defense, or engineering environment.

  • Proven ability to write and edit scientific and technical materials with precision and clarity.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, and desktop publishing/drawing software (e.g., FrameMaker, Visio).

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to organize complex information logically.

  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.

  • Valid state-issued driver's license is required.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

You're a strong communicator who can work seamlessly between technical and non-technical stakeholders. You enjoy transforming dense, complex content into user-friendly materials, and you're highly skilled at managing documentation libraries and processes in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.

This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives in structured, secure, and highly technical workspaces, especially within government contracting or defense projects.
