Network Operations Center (NOC) Engineer Tier 2

Location: On-site Hamilton/Cincinnati, OH
Environment: 247365 Network Operations Center + Colocation Facility

Work Schedule: Shift-based rotation to support 24x7 operations

Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Tier-2 NOC Engineer to join our on-site team in the Hamilton/Cincinnati, OH area. This role plays a key part in maintaining our high-availability network infrastructure, supporting data center operations, and delivering reliable services to our customers. You will handle Tier-2 escalations, perform standard network changes, assist with patching and upgrades, conduct root cause analyses, and provide occasional hands-on support within the data center.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to and resolve Tier-2 network incidents and service requests in a 247 NOC environment.
  • Execute standard network changes, patching, and firmware/software upgrades.
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) documentation for critical incidents.
  • Provide on-site Smart Hands support, including racking, cabling, hardware swap-outs, and validation.
  • Monitor network performance using tools like SolarWinds, PRTG, or similar platforms.
  • Work within ticketing and change control systems such as ServiceNow or Jira.
  • Collaborate with Tier-1 and Tier-3 teams for escalations and project rollouts.

Required Qualifications

  • 3 5+ years of hands-on network support experience in a Managed Service Provider (MSP), NOC, or enterprise environment.
  • Strong understanding of Layer 2/3 networking, including:
    • VLANs, STP, port-channels/EtherChannel
    • IPv4/IPv6, DHCP, DNS, NAT, ACLs
  • Experience with VPN technologies: IPsec, SSL VPN.
  • Familiarity with wireless networking fundamentals and Quality of Service (QoS) principles.
  • Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting routers, switches, and firewalls (Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto; Aruba is a plus).
  • Proficient with network monitoring and ticketing systems (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG, ServiceNow, Jira).
  • Strong understanding of operational processes and change management in 247 environments.

Preferred Skills

  • Industry certifications (CCNA, Network+, Fortinet NSE, or similar)
  • Experience working in colocation or data center environments
  • Familiarity with scripting or automation tools for network tasks (bonus)

Work Environment

This is a fully on-site position based at our Hamilton/Cincinnati, OH facility. It requires flexibility to work in shifts (days/nights/weekends) to support a 247 operation.
