z/OS Mainframe Systems Programmer

Location: Remote (must be in US / EST Hours)
Pay Rate: $60-$68/h w/ conversion salary of 125k
Public Trust Required

Responsibilities:
DMI, LLC is seeking a z/OS Mainframe Systems Programmer to join us. The z/OS Mainframe Systems Programmer will provide full lifecycle support for mainframe infrastructure, including planning, installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and performance tuning. This individual will be responsible for ensuring high availability, security, and disaster recovery readiness across a multi-LPAR Parallel Sysplex environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide day-to-day systems programming support for z/OS (2.5 and 3.1) and all related IBM and third-party products.
  • Install, configure, and upgrade IBM z/OS components, including JES2, TCP/IP, VTAM, RACF, SMP/E, and IBM z/Workload Scheduler version 10.2.
  • Support IBM enterprise servers across multiple generations of processors to include (z13 through z17), including Parallel Sysplex and Coupling Facility operations.
  • Administer and optimize storage management (DFSMS, DFHSM, VSAM, DFSORT) and hardware configuration definitions (HCD, IODF/IOCDS).
  • Provide systems support for middleware, including CICS, USS (OMVS, zFS, NFS, Apache), Debug Tools, and networking components.
  • Provide information used to administer RACF security environments and integrate with Vanguard Security Solutions for enhanced compliance and auditing.
  • Support third-party vendor software, including TCP/IP Monitor, VPS (LRS).
  • Execute and document Disaster Recovery (DR) exercises; maintain DR readiness and audit compliance.
  • Perform system performance monitoring and tuning using SMF, RMF, and other performance data analysis tools.
  • Support all technical staff and engineers and provide knowledge transfer through structured documentation in Microsoft OneNote.
  • Prepare and execute IPLs, HMC profile changes, and system parameter updates.

Qualifications:
Education and Years of Experience: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Recent (within the last 6 months) hands-on experience with z/OS 2.5 and/or z/OS 3.1.
  • 10+ years of experience as a z/OS Systems Programmer in large enterprise environments.
Required Skills/Certifications:
  • Strong expertise with Sysplex, Coupling Facility, JES2, SMP/E, TCP/IP, VTAM, RACF, CICS, USS, and IBM Workload Scheduler.
  • Proven ability in performance tuning, SMF, RMF data analysis, and troubleshooting complex system issues.
  • Experience working with IBM mainframe hardware from z13 to z17.
  • Proficiency in COBOL (v6.2, v5.2, v4.2), Assembler, and REXX for utilities and automation.
  • Strong PC/server background with ability to use modern tools for documentation, collaboration, and process management.
Desired Skills/Certifications:
  • Experience with IBM z Workload Scheduler version 10, Vanguard Security Solutions.
  • Familiarity with hybrid environments integrating the mainframe with distributed platforms.
  • Knowledge of modern DevOps practices in mainframe operations.
Clearance Requirements: Successful completion of a Public Trust background investigation and/or a Public Trust clearance.
