Description

The Role:
We are looking for Senior Controls Engineers to join our Spring Hill Battery Assembly manufacturing team. The successful candidate will work within the Battery Assembly Manufacturing Engineering (ME) organization in any or all of the Battery Assembly areas (Pack Main Line, High Volume Module or Super Phase Module lines).
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a team environment to continuously improve production equipment and processes utilizing the latest automation control technology such as Safety Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Ethernet communication networks, HMIs, Robotics and Various Vision systems. They will be responsible to conceive of and manage technical projects of varying scale and complexity, implement equipment, and process changes, and assist maintenance with troubleshooting problems.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Provide daily support of production operations with focus on personnel and equipment safety, process quality and uptime with a focus on automation and controls.
  • Provide technical/engineering support to assist production and maintenance with troubleshooting equipment/process failures and with identifying effective follow-up countermeasures.
  • Identify and execute projects to support achievement of departmental business objectives and continuous improvement of safety, quality, cost, and reliability.
  • Ensure new and existing equipment meets operational requirements and appropriate standards.
  • Machinery / equipment Controls Management to ensure compliance with GM Safety and Controls standards.
  • Maintenance / Production Guidance (technical troubleshooting and direction, safety counsel).
  • Ensure proper documentation (drawings, manuals etc.) is available and properly maintained for all equipment in assigned area and collaborate to develop maintenance standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Downtime Planning activities, as required.
  • Launch activities, as required.
  • Identify technical training and knowledge transfer opportunities with other Controls Engineers and Maintenance Teams.
  • Maintain current knowledge in fields of expertise. Update management on current status and emerging trends of areas of expertise as relating to equipment standards, legislative requirements, GM Requirements, etc.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Ability and willingness to regularly work any shift as well as periodic weekends and holidays
  • Strong controls systems technical aptitude obtained either through an Electrical, Computer, or Mechatronic engineering degree or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Proven Leadership, Interpersonal and Communication skills to work effectively with others.
  • Strong work ethic (self-starter, responsible, follow through on assignments)
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, preferably in the automotive industry.
  • Flexibility (moving quickly from one assignment to another as priorities change)
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Automation control systems (PLC based automation, Robotics, Vision, HMI, and CNC).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications: MS Outlook, Excel, Word, Project.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results within a team environment with minimal direction at times.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical concepts and related controls requirements.

What Can Give You A Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualifications):

  • PLC based automation control systems experience with Rockwell PLCs
  • Fanuc Robotics Automation experience
  • Vision system experience with Matrox and Fanuc IRVision
  • Experience with MDT AutoSave
  • Previous experience working in a unionized manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with GM Workplace Safety System (WSS) imperatives (e.g., Management of Change (MOC), G-Comply, Hazardous Energy Control (HEC), Request to Unlock Safety Task (RUST), etc.)
  • Proficient in technical drawing software, AutoCAD / EPLAN
