Sr Database Engineer - Google AlloyDB / PostgreSQL

We are seeking highly skilled and motivated Senior Database Engineers with deep expertise in Google AlloyDB and PostgreSQL to join our data platform team. The ideal candidates will have at least 1 year of hands-on experience with Google AlloyDB, with a proven track record of scaling databases to handle hundreds of millions of transactions and hundreds of terabytes of data. Your role will be critical in architecting, optimizing, and maintaining high-performance, mission-critical database systems.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and maintain robust AlloyDB database architectures to support large-scale applications.
Performance tune Google AlloyDB instances for high-throughput workloads and large datasets.
Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize database systems to ensure high availability and low latency.
Develop strategies for sharding, partitioning, and data distribution to support extreme scalability.
Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams to align database performance with business needs.
Leverage deep PostgreSQL knowledge to improve and extend AlloyDB-based solutions.
Establish best practices for database security, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
Evaluate and implement new features and updates in AlloyDB and PostgreSQL that improve performance and reliability.
Required Qualifications
Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience with Google AlloyDB, including performance tuning and scaling for large workloads.
Strong background in PostgreSQL database architecture, internals, and advanced features.
Proven experience in scaling databases to 100+ million transactions per day and 100+ terabytes of data.
Deep understanding of indexing, query optimization, caching, replication, and high availability strategies.
Experience with monitoring tools, profiling queries, and resolving performance bottlenecks.
Strong scripting skills (e.g., SQL, PL/pgSQL, Bash, Python) for automation and tooling.
Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (Google Cloud Platform preferred), containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines.
Preferred Qualifications
Google Cloud certifications (e.g., Professional Data Engineer).
Experience in hybrid cloud or multi-cloud database architectures.
Contributions to open-source PostgreSQL or AlloyDB tools and extensions.
Experience with real-time analytics or streaming data solutions
