SALARY RANGE: $ 111,000 to $142,916

Job Summary
The lead meter engineer provides guidance and technical leadership and direction to the meter engineering team. The engineer ensure that the company metering is accurate, reliable, current, cost effective and in compliance with all State and National Standards.. This position supports the metering supervisor in guiding, leading, coaching and planning the activities of the meter test lab, meter reading, meter services and meter engineering. The Lead Engineer works with purchasing in establishing equipment specifications and purchase order for meters and related metering equipment and execute those orders through out the year. This position develops metering standards and practices for company metering applications for all of UI's customer and substation installations.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the Metering Supervisor in leading, coaching and planning the activities of the Meter Test Lab and Meter Engineering.
- Actively support various internal UI departments to ensure metering integrity, data flow, accuracy, reliability, and all applicable criteria, rules and standards for new and existing metering installations.
- Ensure that all metering associated with major revenue accounts and ISO inter-tie metering are monitored and working properly.
- Coordinate ISO data requirements with the data analysts, meter readers, account executives and RMS personnel.
- Ensure that all standards and guides (UI Guidebook of Requirements, Field Metering Standards, etc) are updated and revised to reflect current UI standards and policies and the National Electric Code Requirements regarding metering installations.
- Work with supply chain in planning and purchasing of all metering and associated auxiliary equipment.
- Work closely with Electric Systems in the design, construction, installation and testing on all metering at the 115KV level and below.
- Develop internal metering standards and designs that cost effectively and reliably measure the energy delivered to UI's customers.
- Support the Standard Field group in deploying or maintaining the system metering and by being available for off hour assistance during emergencies.
- Ensure that the company meter reference standards are up to date and in calibration.
- Provide analysis to the meter test programs to ensure that any negative performance trends are detected early and acted upon.
- Support the Data Collection Group in providing follow up on meter data issues to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of load settlement data to the ISO.
Required Qualifications
- Education & Experience:
- Requires a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET accredited college/university, a graduate level engineering degree plus 7 years experience performing engineering duties or an AS degree with 11 years experiences performing engineering duties plus specialized advanced training (e.g. PTI. WPI , ECNE PUI)
- Possess a depth and breath of experience in metering engineering and knowledge of internal/external business and regulatory issues.
- Skills/Abilities:
- Seven years of metering application experience is preferred.
- Maintains knowledge of leading edge metering techniques or technology through participation in professional associations.
- Able to read, interpret and create electrical drawings.
- Able to communicate orally or in writing to regulatory and/or public entities.
- Able to lead a Team or mentor others.
