Job Details

Title : Azure SQL DBA

Location : Hartford, CT

Type : 12+ month contract

Job Description:

The DBA should have at least 5 years of industry hand-on experience in managing Azure SQL databases and instances.

Azure SQL DBA Responsibilities:

  • Advanced Troubleshooting & Incident Management:

To diagnose and resolve complex, high-severity database issues, including performance bottlenecks, security breaches, and availability problems.

Handle critical incidents (P1/P2) and participate in bridge calls for troubleshooting.

Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and document findings.

Provide on-call support for critical database issues.

  • Performance Tuning & Optimization:

Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks through query optimization, indexing, and other techniques.

Monitor database performance using Azure Monitor and Log Analytics.

Optimize database configurations for optimal performance and resource utilization.

  • Database Administration & Maintenance:

Design, implement, and maintain Azure SQL databases, including PaaS and IaaS deployments.

Manage database backups, restores, and disaster recovery strategies.

Implement and maintain database security measures, including access control and encryption.

Apply database updates, patches, and hotfixes with minimal disruption.

  • Collaboration & Mentorship:

Collaborate with other teams, including application developers and infrastructure teams, to resolve database-related issues.

Mentor junior DBAs on best practices and troubleshooting techniques.

Provide guidance and documentation to stakeholders on database design and best practices.

  • Proactive Monitoring & Capacity Planning:

Monitor system health, including CPU, memory, and disk usage.

Perform capacity planning and forecasting for database resources.

Automate routine database administration tasks using scripts or Azure Automation.

  • Documentation & Knowledge Management:

Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.

Create and update data dictionaries and naming conventions.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Expertise in Azure SQL: Deep understanding of Azure SQL Database, including PaaS and IaaS deployments.
  • SQL Server Knowledge: Solid foundation in SQL Server concepts and administration.
  • Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving: Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex database issues.
  • Performance Tuning: Experience in performance tuning and optimization techniques.
  • Scripting & Automation: Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell) and automation tools (e.g., Azure Logic Apps).
  • Security & Compliance: Strong understanding of database security principles and compliance requirements.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Azure Certifications: Considered a plus, such as the Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate certification.
