Database Engineer

Support the X9 to X11 Exadata upgrade from application engineering perspective including capacity planning for platform migrations and generating metrics reports.
Conduct performance tuning and query optimization across large datasets, supporting Oracle and Snowflake environments for data warehousing, reporting, and advanced analytics.
Help implement and optimize databases for GenAI models, including support for vectorized search, data pipelines, and AI-ready datasets.
Lead database modernization effort, including Oracle to PostgreSQL Aurora migrations, working with application owners to plan and refactor schemas, SP logic, and integrations.
Optimize database systems for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency across large-scale, multi-terabyte insurance datasets.
Provide deep expertise in AWS database services, including RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL, and native AWS monitoring and performance tuning tools.
Evaluate new technologies to guide and support cost cutting related to software and infrastructure initiatives.
Implement data controls and governance aligned with our industry regulations and internal risk frameworks.
Partner with infrastructure teams to automate environment provisioning and monitoring using modern tooling such as Splunk.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to building a resilient, high-performing database engineering function.
What you'll need to succeed
Must-Have Skills:
5+ years of experience in enterprise database engineering, preferably within insurance or financial services.
Expertise in Oracle databases (11g through 23ai), with deep knowledge of Exadata and ExaCC infrastructure, and experience participating in large-scale Exadata upgrades.
Hands-on experience with Snowflake, including administration, security, and compute optimization.
Advanced SQL and PL/SQL skills with focus on performance, scalability, and automation.
Hands-on experience with AWS database services, including Aurora PostgreSQL, RDS, and migration tooling (e.g., DMS and SCT).
Proven success in migrating Oracle databases to PostgreSQL Aurora, including assessment, translation, and performance validation.
Knowledge of encryption standards, data privacy, and compliance (e.g., SOX).
Strong documentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
