Job Description

Develops, designs, implements and tests software of embedded devices and systems; monitors and enhances the efficiency and stability of the systems.

Responsibilities

The Service Technologies section delivers three releases per year labeled A, B and C (for example, 2026A, 2026B and 2026C) for the Windows based service tool, Remote Troubleshoot, and Local Troubleshoot products.

Implement application data for each release, as specified by internal Cat Electronics customers, for all products.

Implement calibration and service procedure data for each release, as specified by internal Cat Electronics customers, for all products

Implement service tool simulation applications (i.e. Trainer) as schedule permits.

Apply engineering controls to implemented data, and resolve errata with workgroup Application Engineers, team lead, and/or Cat Electronics customers.

Develop and maintain the workgroup process documentation as required.

Develop and maintain workgroup and/or personal process tools as required.

Develop and maintain Cat Electronics facing process tools as required (e.g. OIP Information Services).

Typical task breakdown:

- Each day you will process 10-15 configuration changes in the database for the next software release. This may include adding new parameters or features into the database or changing how they are available when Cat ET is used.

- You will run a suite of validation checks after processing each customer request, and understand and resolve any errata.

- You will document your changes in detail within the tracking software as business partners often dispute their requests and it is necessary for other team members to understand what changes were made, based on the request.

Interaction with team:

- Occasionally you will consult with senior team members to identify the approach to handle uncommon features or requests.

- Often you will request clarification regarding missing or improper information from the application engineers.

Work environment:

- A quiet, controlled work environment is helpful, as some changes require hundreds of repetitions in operations, and interruptions contribute significantly to errors, delays, and rework. It helps to limit IM and walk-up interruptions. Because of the significant volume in changes each day, the team member will frequently have worked on several other changes before receiving responses from team members, so communication is best handled in written form, typically within the tracking software or an email.
